Track injuries/advice for motivation.. I'm so unexperienced..?

Question:Track is seriously discouraging me these past 2 wks. Last week I injured my quad;its still injured, I strained the quad muscle in my left leg & it keeps pulling as I run.
Today I think I managed to get shin splints even though I have been taking the runs easier/jogging &haven't really done a hard run in 4-5 days.
I'm pretty much the slowest on the team (not THE slowest but close enough) & I have absolutely NO endurance for long distance; the mile made me want to throw up so I decided to do sprinting.
This is my first time doing track, as a highschool sophmore, (Actually this is my first time doing a sport/anything athletic ever) & being around a lot of people who are loads better than me is beginning to really discourage me, being the slowest & least athletic/strong person on the team. Honestly I'm the only one who hasnt done a sport before & I'm totally unexperienced & unathletic.. Can anyone give me advice to help keep me motivated to do this? (btw I'm skinny, just not athletic)

At 5:00 today I will run 3 miles any advice?

You need to allow your injuries to fully heal before you continue to train. If you do not, then they can become chronic & you are risking permanent damage. Do you have a pool at your school or nearby? You could use a floatation belt & run in the deep water - no impact, you push yourself to maintain a cardio workout, so you don't lose you conditioning. Keep in mind, also, that track is not just about you competing with the other runners, but you competing against your own times. keep a log of your workouts & competitions so you can see how you are improving - sometimes it's not just about who wins the race, but on who keep s trying & improves the most relative to where they started. Running is a great exercise that you can continue with for your own health & fitness long after you are out of school, so don't give up on yourself.

After i ran like 3 miles my legs get hurt.?

Okay, Gina, let's get this done 1 problem at a time.

1. The reason you are discouraged is because you aren't confident in your self, aren't conditioned, and don't have a plan.

2. Quad injury - REST and stay off the track until the pain goes away. What's your trainer say about this? Have you been to the doctor? You need to get a plan and do proper stretches so the muscle will heal up properly.

3. Shin splints - Simply a matter of muscle imbalance. Meaning the back of your legs is stronger than the front muscles. Lie face down in bed with your toes hanging over the foot of the bed. Pull your toes upward against the resistance of the mattress. Build up to 20-30 reps morning and night.

4. Mile run - You just ran it too fast, that's why you wanted to throw up.

Notes so far: You ran a mile and felt sick, so you choose sprints. Sprints injured your quad, so you slow down obviously favoring that muscle and probably caused the shin splints. NO MATTER WHAT, injury is a sign of OVERUSE, meaning you're trying to do too much too fast for your body to accept.

Take care of your body, treat your injuries, get a plan.

When will Paula be back on the road and winning for GB again?

do not feel dis hearted why dont you take it this way other people might have practised more than u have. so stop getting hopeless and move out from the crowd and start practicing and i would also suggest u to skip and jog regularly to develop stamina and footwork for success do not let your moral down .u can do it and always remember a simple thing that u r the best no matter what people say and be successful

Faster 2mile?

STRECH!
That is the best thing you can do for your body
just keep trying and practice after track by running and streching and on weekends don't take breaks

In shape for the Track and Feild season...?

What I would suggest is ask a sports trainer. There is one at this site who answers questions like yours and ran track in college.Good luck.

Running shoe advice for high arches.?

Your injuries are due to your lack of training and inexperience. You said you were the only person that has not run on the team before. It takes time to develop skills and conditioning. Look at this year as a base for the future. You need to treat your injuries and allow them to heal. During the off season you need to do weights and plyometrics to gain strength and flexibility. You have been doing too much too fast too soon. Take your time and look at the long picture of where you can be in the next year or two. You will get better.
