What's the best way to run the mile?

We are doing our final fitness testing unit in P.E. class, which means that we will probably be running the mile next week. I usually run about a 9-minute mile, which is horrible for our school standards. (<6:00=A, 6:00-8:00=B, 8:00-10:00=C, etc.) Are there any strategies I can use to get the best time for me? I can run around the school parking lot in about 4 minutes, which is about 0.5-miles, I'd think. Any ways to build indurance within a few days?

What stretches could i do to increase my flexibility for longer/better strides?

Eat a very carb high breakfast (oatmeal and 2 slices of 12 grain bread)

And drink water all day up until about 1 hour before your run. Make sure you are really hydrated. Also about 2 hours before your run eat a banana, drink some gatorade and eat lots of carbohydrates!

The bananas and water will eliminate muscle cramps. The carbs will prevent you from feeling sluggish and fatigued. The endurance though, is all in your head. Just keep telling yourself you can do it.. because I know you can. It should be no problem if you follow these instructions.

ALSO: Get plenty of sleep before the race. this means an additional 1-2 hours on top of your usual sleep. And while your running, breathing is very important you should be taking longer, deeper breaths IN YOUR NOSE and OUT YOUR MOUTH. if you take small breaths, this uses more energy as your diaphram and lungs are working harder to contract more times.

What is a good 400 meter time for a 14 year old male?

The fact that you can run a mile at all is good. You can't really build a lot of endurance in such a short time.

What you might want to do is to start out really fast. then walk a little then go fast again. It might increase your time (or it might not).

Try it this week and see what happens. I've seen people do a little bit better like t his

What is your best race and why?

Well im in track and i run the mile. the only thing i can really think of to suggest is to start at an easy pace and every lap you run (im assuming you're running this on a track) try to speed up a little bit. also the last 100 meters you should full out sprint. i know it sounds hard but by that time your body will be numb and you won't really be able to feel it. another thing to keep you from getting tired is to run with your knees up. usually when people are running and get tired, they tend to "kick their butt" make sure you keep your knees up and in front of you while you're running. and take slow, long strides. the only thing to build endurance before the big day is just to run as much as possible. each day it should get a little bit easier. hope i was of some help =]] -loren

Wat should i do to increase my speed in running?

Not in a few days, sorry. Building endurance takes time. Being able to run a mile in and of itself is worthy of an A if you ask me. Not too many people can run an entire mile non-stop. If I was graded on my speed, I'd fail. I can run 2-3 miles at a time, but it's not super-fast. I can run 2 miles on a treadmill in 23 min.
If you try to rush out of the start too fast, you'll burn out sooner and not be able to finish in a decent time. Your strategy should be for the next few days should be one long run of at least 2 miles, and shorter runs where you do short sprints with a recovery in between. Plan to run a mile, and every 2 min or so, sprint for a min, then back off for a min. While it may not make a huge difference in your time, it might help you knock off a minute or so.

Track 400 and 800 meter run?

well pace your self until the final lap and push deep for the final lap as to build endurance in a few days um that's a hard one, it usually take a few weeks to build endurance. but I know a way to give your self more energy, a table spoon of EVOO the Fat takes longer to break down in to energy so about 2 hours before the run would do but I don't advise it, the best thing to do is to pace your self and dig deep on the final lap

Whats the difference between a basketball shoes and a running shoe?

Unfortunately, there isn't any way to build endurance in a few days. It generally takes about 2 weeks for the affects of training to show up in improved performance.

You will run your best mile if you run at an even pace. If you currently run 9:00 and don't run an even pace, it wouldn't be unreasonable to run 8:45 or maybe even 8:30 if you pace yourself better. If there is a track available, try running 1 lap in 2:10. Walk or jog until you are completely recovered. Repeat this 2 or 3 times. This will help you learn the pace for the fitness test. Don't do this the day before the mile. In fact, don't do this unless you have at least 3 or 4 days until the test or you may be too sore and tired to run the mile well. Otherwise, the best advice is rest, relax and do your best. You can always train for next years fitness test.

first pace your self. if you go to fast you'll waste your energy and get tired. also dont care about if you are last or not. while running breathe in your nose and out your mouth so you dont breathe like crazy and your throat won't feel like it is suckking cold air. do your best and saay things like i can do this. a good way to get your body used to running is jogg 2 miles every day and time yourself.jog at your speed and dont be lazy. make sure before the mile to stretch out really good so you dont get cramps.
