How can I become a better runner?

Question:I have always done a lot of bike work, and eliptical work, but never much running. How can I build my endurance so that I can run longer?
Thanks and God bless.

Is a British mile longer than a US mile? and if so by how much?

The only way to get better at running is to run. There are other things that will help, weights, plyometrics, diet, etc. Depending on what type of runner you are trying to be, distance, track, sprint, hurdler, will determine what type of training you need to focus on to improve. The things you have been doing will help you, because you should have the cardiovascular system to enable you to train. To build your endurance to run longer you need to run. Start off running easy for 3 to 5 miles 3 to 5 times per week. Run so that you can talk. If you run too fast to talk you are not training your endurance systems. You should be able to run this distance if you have been doing the work mentioned in your question. After you feel comfortable with this work out you can increase your distance by about 25% after a month or two. Do not jump up your distance too much too fast. It will cause injury. Be sure to take off at least one day per week. You can do the bike and elliptical as cross training which many runners do.

Cross Country..a dirty sport?

practice, practice, practice. Find and good coach and weight train.

If 1 week more day is my Final 4.5k cross country run .. What is the best thing to help mi run fast on the DY

If you can ride a bike (with endurance),sure.
check with a doctor
I would guess, begin small (with the help of experienced runners).

Does anyone know where I can get a good olympic-distance Triathlon training plan for free?

First set a goal of what you want to accomplish. Example, time or pace you want to run, distance, type of running like track, road races, hills.

Get a log book to record everything you did from the milage you put in to the type of diet you consume. This will help you keep track of what you did and the progression toward meeting your goal. If your not progressing like you wanted, then check with your log book. It may tell you something that you did or didnt do right.

Also, make sure you get the proper equipment or gear for it. Example a good pair of running shoe, clothes, stop watch..etc.

Then just go out and run. Enter a few races which ranges from 5k to a marathon and see how you do. Use these as a bench mark and maybe set a different goal to achieve the previous goal.

Good luck.
