Shin splints - I do alot of running and this past 2 months my shins are killing any advice?

What have you found that works well for fatigued quads?

Rest up theres no other way round it.

Rest for a while, a week or two - although that all depends on how bad it is you could need much more, you can judge that. Then start running again on an every other day program not covering more than half your previous mileage.

Then you can slowly build you mileage up, do two eeks at a set weekly mileage minimum before increasing it and increase it by no more than 10%. Build up to running more days as you see fit, its more important to build up mileage slowly. Try to avoid running for more than 45mins at a time for the first month or so, and do as few days as possible while still completing you scheduled mileage.

I know all this is not ideal and seems to take ages to get to any decent sort of level of running but there really is no other way, you could do serious damage if you carry on full throttle.

I probably should say go see a specialist but as long as your careful thats not always neccesary. But if you do a lot of running you'll know the score, if it doesn't improve or gets worse then you'll have to consider stopping for longer and going to a sports injury specialist.

Iceing heps but only to relieve pain, don't ice them, think "oh I feel fine now" and go out for a run, its not fixed them only stopped them aching! But yeah icing is good to stop you living with the pain.

If you do go for a massage make sure it is a propper sports masseuse as more damge can be done than good if done incorrectly. Correctly done it can help muscles though.

I keep adding things to this...

Yeah as said above proteins good to help with recovery so take a supplement. Best time to absorb protein apparently is first thing, thats not my advice though just passing it on.

What about your running shoes, how many miles have they done? Is the cushioning worn? Were they professionally fitted? Anser in additional details, I'll watch this question.

Have you tried warming up your legs before running? Do some quick leg stretches before and after running. This will decrease the lactic acid which builds up that cause muscle cramps.
