my mile time is around 6:50 and i have almost a year to train. how should i train? like 1 mile a day or 1 mile 3 times a week or 2 miles 3 times a week etc. and what do you think my mile time could be by next track season? Thanks

Does anyone know a good snack to eat before running track or cross country?
I'd suggest you try the following program:Two days a week, run a few minutes to warm up, then run very hard (out of breath and faster than your mile pace) for half a mile- three times, with walking breaks in between.
Two days a week, run two or three miles at a slower than your mile pace. Every two or three weeks, add a half mile to the distance until you can run 4-5 miles nonstop.
The other three days, ride a bike or just rest.
To improve your mile, you really don't need to train every day- just make sure you run at least twice a week faster than your mile and at least twice a week longer distances than a mile, and I guarantee if you stick with it you are probably capable of a 6:15 mile or better.
the easiest way is run a mile a day and everyday try and beat your time
Run 2 miles a day. Get in good shape. Eat the correct type of foods. Your time should come down by a minute.
What should I eat the mornig and night before a 5 k. HELP!!?
you should run around 2-5 miles a day and test your speed every week. you should do a distance run every week. and sprints.Sunday- rest/light running; Monday-2 miles; Tuesday-400m sprints(speed); Wednesday-3 miles(endurance); Thursday- light running/jogging(1mile-1 1/2miles); Friday- Timed mile run (warm-up, light stretching:hard too stretch cold muscles) Saturday- 2-3 mile run. In year, your time can dramatically decrease. 6:50 -now at least 5:10 in a year. Make sure you train your core also (back,abs,etc.).
you might think it doesn't matter, but there are some things to consider ... like your weight vs. height; age; and maybe other considerations. however, in ONE YEAR, if you're running 6:50 now, you should definitely improve. personally, i would suggest a combination of two things: LONG / short days; and intervals twice a week. how many days a week can you comfortably train? let's say ... 5. take sunday off. monday, go on a long (for you) slow run -- say 4 miles? (unless you can comfortably run further). next day -- go to the track and jog 1/4 mile, then run the straightaways (110 yards or 100m) at about 7/8 speed (about as fast as you can run). recover around the corners. go one mile total at first, or further if you're not dead. next day: OFF. following day (thursday) go for 2 or 3 miles at about just short of 'fast' speed. friday, intervals -- but this time go 1/4 miles (400m) at about 1/2 of your full out sprint -- 1.5 or 2 miles total. saturday, go for a deliberately slow fun jog for a few miles. repeat every week. vary somewhat, such as when you might want to enter a 5k. get back with me as to your particulars -- and i should be able to be more specific.
i dont really know how to really improve ur strengths in running the mile, but the way i improve my time is to run fast in the beginning, and walk when u get tired and run faster sum more. this may sound weird, but it really works!!
I just ran a 12k race. What type of foods should I avoid post race?
Unless you are over weight make sure you get plenty of carbs and practice running 1 and a quarter miles in addition to wind sprints until you hurt.More Questions & Answers...
