our coach makes us run a minimum of 3 miles a day if we're distance and we still have to practice sprinting our event. try that. it may work. works for us.Should I breathe through my nose or mouth when I run?
our coach makes us run double our event during practice so that our regular event is top speed! so you run the 400 so do I! ill tell you what i do (i run mine in 51.2 secs) run two 800's at a pace that gets your heart rate up like a 75% sprint then after that run four 400's at your regular sprinting pace then after you have recoverd like the next day or something your time should improve i hope this helps! it helped meIs Ultrmarathon guy Dean Karnazes just a genetic freak, or can anyone run 200 miles?
Do Buildups everyday and train harderIs running affecting my workout?
I assume you are doing intervals now. You need to run at your projected race pace on hard days and easy 3-5 miles on easy days. At the speeds you are doing it is very difficult to improve. It is percentages so the faster you are going you can not have a big percentage drop in your times. The 400 is a race you must attack and go out hard, relax and keep up your pace and form. The 800 you need to run even pace for the entire race. I like to break it down into 200s. Go out at your projected race pace, which should be about 29 seconds. Run each 200 at the same pace, which means the 3rd 200 is your hardest effort to maintain the same speed. If you go out too fast you will slow down too much, and if you go out too slow you can not make up the lost time. That is why you want to do intervals at the race pace or a little faster, so your body is conditioned to that speed and you can recognize the speed your are racing so you do not make a tactical mistake. You aren't going to achieve those times this season, no matter how hard you work at it. You have mostlikely already peaked your performance this season, and you will have to wait for your body to develope more before you will see a gain in your abilities. Running sub 2 in the 800 is EXTREMELY hard. I ran 1:59.88 my freshman year and pulled a few muscles in my legs in the process just from the stress of the race alone. Use the summer and fall to work on improvement, thats when the real hard work needs to take place. And that is my answer to you. If you want to run under 2 in the 800 then you'll need to have your splits no more than 1.5 seconds apart. If you can run a 58 & a 60 then you are good enough.
