Practice your pass overs with the rest of the team to get them as smooth and as fast as possiblePractice, handing off the Bataan takes practice, you see drops in the Olympics, watch learn. good luck
I got a track meet tom. and I am running a mile in a 6:20 any ideas or tips to help me win??
handoffs win the race. the team that does the best at passing the baton almost always wins, unless they are just extremely slow. practice handoffs nonstop, until you get them perfectWhats the best way to train for a 2 mile?
The baton should be exchanged within the zone. You will be picking up speed then, time your start when the curve runner is about 5 meters away from you. You should be on the inner side of the track or outer depending on which hand you take the baton. Practice with the palm upward style or the downward style. Nowadays the open palm upward is used more, where the baton is placed on the palm. Watch a few videos of the former East German women athletes, they worked like machines, especially Marita Koch, Marliese Gohr & Co., if you can.practice, practice, practice. you need to have the handoff down pat. just keep practicing. try new ideas, but have a good routine by the time it counts.
Besides practicing the handoff, a good tip as anchor is to not start running fast until you get the baton. Many times the anchor gets excited and runs too fast in the exchange zone for the 3rd leg to catch up with her and the team ends up disqualified because the exchange takes place past the exchange zone. Make sure you start out slow enough to receive the baton, then you can crank it up.

The best advice I can give you is to just stay calm. I always got so much more nervous for the relays than open events because in relays you have 3 other people running it too, so you don't want to screw up. Just practice your hand-offs over and over and over again. Our coach always made us do 3 perfect hand-offs in a row. If we got 2 and then screwed the 3rd one up, we had to start over. It was a luck thing i guess. Anyway, I'm telling to to stay calm and relaxed because you don't want to go off to early when your 3rd runner is coming around the corner to hand-off to you, but you also don't want to go too late. The most important thing is to just have a smooth hand-off and once the baton is in your hand...FLY! Go for it, run your little heart out and show them what's up. Good Luck, I loooooved always being anchor. it's an honor.Mile and Half Mile Times For Seventh Graders?
Have the person handing off to you tell you when to take off. When you take off, you should be at a full sprint.NEVER LOOK BACK. When the person handing off to you tells you when to put your hand back , don't look back, you lose seconds. When you are sprinting, look straight ahead, keep your arms close to you body, and pump your arms.get 2 pieces of tape that u kan easily see on the track. put dem bout 7 steps behind where u r standing. wen 3rd leg comes 2 the tape, they should sai run nd wen dey get close enough, dey should sai reach. 3rd shouldnt stop runnin or slow down or its goin 2 make the hand off bed. if ur team wants 2 get faster, practice on handing off nd in practice, run mostly 200s
Im very good at sprinting but i cant run distance for the life of me, why is this?
Everyone else has already mentioned most everything I'd think of, but I have a quick but really simple tip: make sure everyone in your group ties their shoes in a way where they can't come undone or loosened, and can't be tripped on. My group in the state competition lost because our runner on the first 100 tripped when her lace came untied. Doh!One way to practice the pass that I've seen and used is if the four of you sit in a row, cross-legged on the ground, and swing your arms as if jogging, and do the pass-off that way over and over again - this way you don't have to run 100m each time.
And learn to relax and be in the zone when you run, rather than nervous. Best of luck!
