Running tips?

Assuming you haven't been running for very long, your body just isn't used to it. I wouldn't chalk it up to a medical problem. Slowly increase your distance in each workout and don't get dehydrated.

It is true that you are probably just not used to it. But you need to start off really slow. Like others are saying. If you still continue to have chest pain you may want to consult a doctor.

I'm training for my first marathon in May; should I use the pace group or do it on my own?

You might be what they call "out of shape". All you need to do is slow your run down a bit. Your body will eventually be stronger and you can increase distance and speed. If this still hurts it might be that you have asthma or even a heart condition. Plus you must look at when you run, if its after eating this might be acid from your stomach. There are many factors that goes into this but I would say just take it a bit slower until you gather the strength.

It could be asthma, but i am by no means a doctor.

Don't u wanna stop?

The problem is your breathing. Control your breathing as you run. Inhale for two steps, exhale for two steps. You have to really concentrate on it at first, but then it becomes habit. This also helps when you increase your speed because the rate of your breathing increases just enough as well. If you breath to quickly when you run, you will get a bad cramp, either in your chest or your side (called a stitch). Just control your breathing and you should be able to go for much longer distances. Also, make sure you are in shape, and can handle the distance. Good luck

dude, if you are experiencing serious chest pain you need to see a doctor. don't mess around with that. you could have heart disease or another heart condition and not know it. go to a doctor and get checked out before running anymore. If possible have a professional stress test performed. until you are given an "all clear" from a medical professional stick to easy walking.

I agee with Gmoney, get a physical. I have ben running since 1977. It only makes sense to have a few x-rays, blood samples, etc. That way you will know for sure if it's jsut cramps or something else going on.
As far as the running goes, for many years I was hooked on marathons and non-stop running. Lately, I have been training for something a little longer. Last year I ran 35 miles, and this year my goal is a 55 mile run. My training is to jog for three minutes and walk for three minutes. 3:3. Seems like running is more enjoyable this way, I cover more distance, see the surroundings better, and have not had an injury yet.
Maybe try the 3:3 running style.

How to Avoid Running Cramps?

You don't say how old you are, or how hard you are running. It may be that you are out of shape, or it may be a symptom of a problem. Get a physical, and, if you are in good health, then, slow down, and find a pace that isn't painful, and run at that pace for increasing amounts of time and distance. Good Luck!

Track & field question!??!?

i used to have the same problem when i started back running. its just beacuse you're not in shape give it a couple of weeks and i guarantee that you'll be running longer. the reason why you feel that pain is because your heart is not used to pumping blood throughout your body that fast and for so long.
