Cough after running?

I have not ran since 1985 when I left the Army, I am now running (1 1/2 mile in 1 month!) but I have a cough the next day, why?

How do I find the current track and field records for junior high schools in Garden Grove California?

part of it is the exertion on your throat, and the cold air.
and part of it is that your body's immune system is going to be supressed a bit after a strenuous workout.

I would recommend drinking a high vitamin C beverage soon after you run. I like Emergen-C powder, just mix with a bottle of water and you're fine.

Running for weight loss - is it better to.?

My guess is your lungs are just not used to working like that! I play foot hockey and if I don't play for a couple of weeks I cough like crazy. I think it's just your lungs opening up and working a little harder. That's my guess! I don't think you're gonna die! lol
Good luck!

Faster...!?

depending on where you live, the cold air outside might be drying and irritating your airways. when i run in extreme cold i tend to have some problems with an irritated throat, but it's normally during the run. still, if it's been over 20 years, your airways may not be used to the increased flow of dry air.

Planning to become a 100 meter sprinter, any suggestions?

I totally get that now and I am in the army still.
If I run hard and long especially. It usually onsets about 10-20 minutes after I'm cooled down for me.

I also notice myself coughing after a huge laugh attack as well.

I surmized that the answer is that my lungs have just been woken up and all the dust/toxins get shaken around and they are trying to get cleaned out. Lots leave during the activity but the rest have to settle back down in the lungs.

There is so much air pollution in our world it's no wonder we cough. Another contributer may be if you smoke. Also if you work around paint or chemicals that hurt your lungs/bronchiols this will weaken them.

Deep breathing exercises when you aren't running will help increase your lung capacity and allow full function of your lungs to rid toxins from them. Take lots of garlic (you can get oderless garlic) it is a natural antibiotic to kill any infections. And lemons are a natural toxin remover. I like my lemon juice freshly squeezed and warmed like tea. This really helps.

Good luck army guy!
Keep runnin!

I fell on my tailbone and I have track meet coming up?

O MAN! I hear you on that. I used to be a big runner a few years back, but now I picked up smoking.

I saw the treadmill and went for it, doing 1/2 a mile one day and a mile the next. My lungs are coughing right now, adjusting to all the heavy breathing I had. Its normal, you'll adjust and so will your lungs
