Do I still have a chance...?

Question:OKay here goes...I decided to go to track try-outs about 1-2 months ago. I have always been able to run fast, easily. Kind of like my thing. I just never got around to acting on it. I was doing okay until "it" all happened.

I have been sort of unable to go to practices. I have had many dentist appointments (I have braces), I was sick (for about 2 days), I had to watch my sister (on several occassions), the coach for track is also the soccer coach (I don't come when he has games)

I haven't shown up for practice in QUITE a while. Do you think the coach will tell me to get lost and that if I'm not committed, I shouldn't show up at all?

I hope experience with past and present coaches will give me a better ideas. You all seem very experienced in all this.

Hard core training?

just tell him why you haven't come back to pratice and that you are very commited and you love running track. Tell him you really want to do it and show him your desperation.

Pace for the 800. General 400 ad 800 training.?

I think so, just be mature about it and tell your coach your circumstances. He is a person just like you are with responsibilities and will probably understand.

You are both trying to be the best you can so if he can't see it like that, it is his loss for being close-minded and your loss for not living up to your potential as an athlete. One you may both regret.

The guy at the front of the race..who drops out after a while, has he got a pace-maker?

Not very likely. He might tell you to come to practices but when it comes to competing than he will probley wont let you. Just go and talk to the coach about it and see what he says. You never know if he might let you compete. If he doesnt than wait until next season. Dont worry about what he says. Good Luck

Will running downhill make my thighs big?

Yes, he might be a little angry, especially if you try to avoid him. I've gotten along with most of my coaches and have learned from the mistakes of others. The best thing to do is to approach him before practice, explain yourself, say your sorry, and promise to be more commited or he can boot you off the team. Coaches usually hate excuses so just say that you know that's a lot of practices to miss and that you are willing to commit all the time he needs you to. Hopefully he'll understand. If not, he's a jerk. Good luck.

Help! iam a 17 year old runner, i eat junk food regularly everyday?

Hey there! I'm a high school track coach just so you know.

If my athlete was honest and upfront with me, explained her absences, and made a commitment to attend ALL future practices, I would be happy to let her back on my team.

SO, my advice after 14 years of coaching high school track and field:
Set up a meeting with your coach.
Apologize sincerely (if you're not sincere I'm not sure why you'd want to go back to the team)
Make every effort to show up to every practice on time.
Give your best effort every day.
Be a positive supporter of your teammates.

Good luck!

I think nike do the best spikes what about you?

He's the coach and it's ultimately going to be his decision. I can't predict what his reaction might be, but you won't know unless you approach him and tell him - honestly - why you've been missing practices. If nothing else he'll respect you for being straightforward with him. So let him know about what's going on and then let things fall the way they will. You can't really control his reaction, but if you are ever going to run with the team again you'll need to deal with it.

If he lets you compete, great. If he let's you practice but not compete then try running in some local road races in your area - they'll all probably be longer than your track events, but it will be a great challenge and let you put your fitness to competitive use. If he tells you to forget it you can either try road racing or another school sport team and then go out for track again in the spring when your life may have calmed down to the point that you can attend more regularly.

Good luck.
