Quad injury.. 2nd day of track.. help/advice please...?
This depends, are you racing in junior high, high school, or college? You must find out what your association will allow you to race in. I think for rubberized tracks for high school you must use 1/4" at largest (that is the norm). You can also pick from a type of spike. Pyramid spikes are for Dirt tracks only, Needle spikes are for synthetic (rubber) or dirt tracks. X-mas tree (compression spikes) are for rubber tracks only. Although I have used pyramids for rubber tracks they just don't grip as well. Here is from a website:
# Pyramid spikes and their lengths
# 1/8" - for thin synthetic tracks
# 3/16" (5mm) - for synthetic tracks
# 1/4" (7mm) - are MOST popular for synthetic tracks
# 3/8" (9mm) - for thicker urethane tracks
# 1/2" - for non-synthetic tracks
# 5/8" - for non-synthetic tracks
Although for formation wise on the bottom, I hope your spike plate is only in the front, otherwise you might be running in like a high jump shoe or something. All spikes should be on the ball or toes. I would say just keep all the same, but if you would like to try something i thought of, put the longer ones in the front. Although as you run more you will find what you like. Try everything out for yourself.
What type of running shoes do you prefer?
The type of Spikes you use depends on the surface you're going to be running on.1. Cinder Tracks usually call for 2" spikes
2. The Asphalt Track calles for extremely sharp short spikes (size?)
3. The Rubberized Track is definitly extra short. Traction is never a problem.
As far as spikes on the back?? Track Spikes NEVER have spikes on the back! They usually only have a thin rubber coating.
Who Sprints on thier heels? When Sprinting you are always on your toes. if Track shoes had spikes on the back somebody would probably get seriously injured.using them.
How did I pull my groin muscle??
listen to docWell in College track and field 1/4 spikes are most frequently used. There a lot of restrictions against using x-mas tree spikes. So if I were you I would use 1/4 spikes and make sure your running shoe is for sprinters.
Does it make sense to run the 100m dash holding your breath?
track normally requires 5-6mm spikes. its fine to have the same length in each holeIs hurdles considered "track" or "field"?
