I need advice on a good pair of jogging/aerobic shoes. I supinate and have wide feet...any suggestions?

What's the fastest any white man has ever run 100m?

Runners who supinate (or underpronate) run on the outside edges of their feet, and they need shoes that provide plenty of cushioning and flexibility. The "neutral" types of shoes provide the support and guidance that you need for a comfortable run. Both Asics and New Balance have these types of shoes, and they offer them in wide sizes. The Asics Cumulus and the New Balance 882 are both great shoes.

As stated above, the best way to choose between the shoes is to try them on and go for a short run. Most, if not all, specialty running shoe stores let you go for a run on a treadmill or in their parking lot. Just choose whichever one is best for your feet.

Finally, I have found that stretches is the best way to prevent shin splints. Some great ones are in the link below, and I highly recommend the first three especially.

Something sweet to do?

I highly recommend going to a smaller, boutique running shoe store. You should have one of these in your community, or at least a neighboring town. You'll pay a bit more for shoes, but it's worth it, since these places are typically staffed by runners (or at least former runners).

Shop around until you find a good salesperson who is willing to listen to your concerns. Different brands have different fits, and all brands have different models made to overcome various degrees of supination and pronation.

A good store will let you not only try the shoes on, but go outside and run around the block or parking lot with them on. A really good store will let you return the shoes even after you've taken them home---a good store can do this because 99% of the time they fit you with the right shoe to begin with.

I used to have all kinds of shin problems until I got a good pair of running shoes. The store I went to actually had a treadmill in the store. They would video tape you running on it, then play the video back in slow motion to show you how your feet move when you run. That made it much easier to find the right running shoes.

If you have insurance, meet with a podiatrist in your area and talk to them. He'd be able to suggest a good solution for the issues you are going through.

Everyone's feet and sole is unique. You should consider on a case by case by basis.

If you do know how to order shoes, you can order from Nike website, where you can customize your own shoes http://nikeid.nike.com/nikeid/index.jhtm... .

Sometimes you can get Dr. Scholls' inserts it works wonders. I have tried three different brand insoles as I have high arch. Dr. Scholls have been the best, which doesn't make my feet sweat, or it doesn't stick to my feet(which some of the insoles do).

Hope you find your best fit shoe. Sometimes in a shoe store, if a person knows best about shoes, they'll be really able to help you out. I personally had issues with regular model shoes, and I understand what you are going through.

Hope you get perfect fit shoe and stay fit, jogging, or doing aerobics or working out. Be Blessed. Have fun.
