Running in the cold?

this morning i went for a run. i havnt ran in about a year. the it was zero degrees when i ran and i was freezing my *** off running in just shorts and a sweatshirt but i didnt stop. when i got done running a mile i looked at the stop watch which was still going and i saw that i ran the mile in a lil less then 5 minutes. this is crazy i know because someone that hasnt ran in a long time should have lost speed. my question is it easier to run in that cold of weather than when its 60 or warmer? my only issue was i my entire body ((legs, chest) everything felt like it had frozen. also does running in this cold weather improve any of my running or other athletic abilities?

Ankle Weights?

When it's warm outside, your body diverts more blood flow to the skin area in order to shed heat. In doing so, the amount of blood delivering oxygen to the muscles is reduced. What this means is that in warmer weather, your performance is decreased by virtue of this lower oxygen delivery (you fatigue faster, etc). The hotter it is, the more your body needs to divert blood flow to cool itself.

At colder temperatures, more blood flow can be delivered to the muscles because your body doesn't have to cool itself so much. The key, though, is to dress properly to be just warm enough, but not so bundled that you're sweating your @ss off! On the other hand, If your body is too cold, it is going to take its own measures to produce heat, which will also cut down on your performance.

When you find that optimal point of dressing for the cold, it's not surprising that you'll feel a little boost in performance. My last two PRs were in 14 degree and 25 degree races.

Triple Jump Techniques and Tips? Everyone makes fun of me..?

It depends on you. Some people perfer to run in the cold and run their best races while others like to run in the heat. I dont think that you lose your speed as fast as you lose your endurance. I usually take a couple months off in between seasons and my speed is usually realtivly the same actually my enduarance really isnt that affected either. I would say that you have natural talent at running.

The cold doesn't improve the quality of your training, it shows dedication.

In womens track how high is a hurdle?

No generally it is not easier to run in that cold of weather. Usually in zero degree temperature a person will be quite a bit slower then running in 60 degree temperature. Running in the cold as far as I know will not generally better for you than running in warmer weather. It will definitely make you tougher but miles are miles no matter what the temp is. Generally I think if it is less than 32 degrees it would be wise to be wearing some protective clothing to avoid risk of frostbite especially if is zero degrees out. You must have been doing something to stay in some semblance of shape over this time to be able to run around 5 minutes for a mile which is pretty respectable.

How to improve more?

its actually much harder to run in the cold if you haven't warmed up. the chances of pulling a muscle go up drastically when the temperature is freezing.

How do i get my speed up in running?

It is a lot harder for me to run it the cold. I also run a lot slower in the cold and I can't breathe at all, but that's because I have asthma. I run a lot a lot better and faster when it's warm outside.

No. Cold weather does not improve your running especially at zero degrees. You have quite the talent and what will improve your abilities is more practice, distance, and sprints.

How do I prepare for sprinting?

Well running in the cold will make it easier to run when the weather's nicer. It's really not all that healthy to run in the cold, it hurts your lungs and it's probably not a good plan to run with only shorts and a sweatshirt. But running in the cold now might improve your times in the summer. Just don't over do it, you might hurt yourself.
