I want to start cross country, but wondering if i could make it?

Over the years, there have been many unsubstantiated myths claiming that running being bad for your joints. Some even claim that running is a major source of osteoarthritis or some other degenerative diseases. After lots and lots of research, we now know that different sports that can strengthen and tighten the muscles around the knee are actually good, not bad. In fact, running can offer up to 12 years protection from the onset of osteoarthritis (see link to article below). Yet these myths seem to linger anyway...

In the same article, an Arthritis Research Campaign spokeswoman states, "Sitting around and being a couch potato is the worst thing you can do for your health." The key is to make sure that you do not injure yourself by making sudden increases to your workout. Gradual increases in distance is best. Although I cite only one newspaper article, you can find numerous sources (magazines, newspapers, web, etc.) that also support what I wrote.

To support weak joints, many people wear knee braces. There are many types out there, including the one with the hole at the knee that you mentioned, and they all work very well. Since you do not feel pain in your joints, it is likely that your joints are perfectly fine, and they will probably benefit from continued light jogging and running. If you feel any pain from light running, especially if it is accompanied by an inflammation, it is important to immediately stop and talk to a physician to rule out any serious pre-existing condition.

How do you run?

you need to get a good pair of running shoes if you are running on cement or concrete you need a pair with good shock absorption so it takes some of compression between your joints in your knees

Keeping my shirt down during mule kicks?

The brace might help, it provides support for the knee. Do some knee strengthening excercises. You can find them on RunnersWorld.com. If you do those everyday you will notice the difference when you run. Good Luck.

Do yout think this is fair?

i agree with matt also it is actually really bad to run on concrete/asphalt period - if you can try to run on grass and or dirt really is best..try a football/baseball field ^^;

Hmm, running&asthma?

A totally different perception and perspective from someone diagnosed with MS.
The problem you are describing could be the onset of arthritis or an arthritis-like exacerbation from MS
Please see a doctor/neurologist and tell him or her about this problem and make sure it is nothing more than just running on asphalt or concrete.
