What is a good time for a high school sophmore in the mile, 2mile, and 5k XC...I'm not talking all state here

I was just wondering what times are generally at certain schools for varsity runners...i know there are schools who have all there guys going under 17 or 18 for a 5k or under 10 or 11 for 2 miles, but what would be a time good enough to get some attention from division 2 or 3 schools or even smaller D1 schools..i dont really care about the times that are for all state guys, i know what that takes..i'm just trying to see where i'm at for like the 5-7 runners on other teams or if you run at college or are a coach, what do you look for? academics, work ethic, attitude, talent? how does it all work out? What should i shoot for junior and senior year to try and run for a D2 or D3 school?

Does running make you buff?

I too am a runner the great thing about running is that is easy to improve. I also am varsity long distance athlete. I run the mile at 5:10, 2 mile at 11:05, 5k at 17:00, and still am not the best on my team. You should really have a strong will power and crazy good work ethic. ROCK ON!! running rocks

What is a steeplechase?

Depends where you are. can't really get slower than 13 for 2mile

Junior Hurdler-Seeking Help With 3 Stepping?

In high school my best 5k time was clocked in at 17:10. My best mile clocked in at 4:23 and my best two mile came in at 9:42. I will be attending a D2 college next fall. However, the school I am going to is in the middle of rebuilding the cross country and track programs so they are not that strong. If you want to run for a d2 or d3 school your best bet is to get anywhere south of 19:30 and if you could get in the 18's you should be set. Remember the training routines of college makes you a much stronger runner, you average many more miles a week and run more consistently year round, which naturally will make you a stronger, faster and all around better runner. So keep up the running and work hard, and don't forget to go to the gym. Running is a lot of upper body , people tend to forget that. I went to the gym this past summer 6 days a week and this was the year i became drastically better. It makes all the difference. Good Luck and if you can email me, let me know how your running is going.

What kind of track spikes should I get?

I am currently a freshmen running DIII. My mile time was 4:51 and my two mile was 11:42 (but i since have dropped to 10:52). If you want DII schools to look at you, you probably are going to need to be a state-qualifier quality runner (maybe 4:30 mile, sub 10 2 mile, sub 17 5k). However DIII it is a lot easier to get on a team. So just keep working hard, try and get below 11 in the 2 mile and 5 in the mile and there will be some DIII coaches who could use you.

Every time i do bicycle abb streches my left knee pops. What should i do?

There are schools with slow runners, these schools are looking for more male students, and to attract them they are starting mens sports teams. You don't really have to have good times for these schools, but for schools in the middle of the heap, expect to have under 5 minute miles, or better.

How do i clean my orthotics?

My best times in H.S. were 4:53 for 1 mile, 10:36 for 2 mile. I never made the states or any other big meets, no colleges contacted me regarding running, I guess I was just your average trackster. Cross country times are hard to quantify because of the different course layouts, but anything under a 5:45 or 6:00 pace would be pretty good.

Track 400 and 800 meter run?

Coaches look at your academics ,work ethic and extra activities and your time depending on which college you want to attend. Cross Country and Track are totally different. My son is a sophmore and he runs a 4:45 mile,10:20 2 mile. In Cross Country he runs a 16:15 5k. In track he is not even top 20 sophmores. Cross Country he is top 30 for sophmores. He got a letter from a D3 College. He has 2 friends that are top 5 in state and are getting letters from D1 Schools. Cross Country is much easier to get into in College!
Just do your best!! Shoot for 4:35 in mile,9:50 in 2 mile and 16:20 in a 5k. Good Luck!!

Running in the cold?

Whats a good time for a 40 yard dash?

i run high school xcountry too & we have some guys that get like 15-16 minutes for a 5k, but most get 19-21 minutes for a 5k.
as for the mile, id say about 6 minutes and 13-14 for 2 miles.
hope your season goes great! i cant wait until practice starts up soon...*

Printing on tech tee's?

There is no real answer for this.

Some D2 or D3 schools are very serious about XC and track, and are in fact even better then D1 schools in the area.
Others, just have the program and don't really stress about it.

So the best advice would be to start thinking about what schools you want to go to. Then contact their coaches about what they expect from their athletes. That will give you a good idea.

If you truly want to run in college, I will bet there is a school somewhere that will let you run no matter how slow you are. However, you may not want to go to that school. Since you are not going to be a professional runner, I would recommend finding the schools that interest you first, not schools that are interested in you.
