What motivates you to become a better runner?

Is a 4:50 mile good for a high school freshman?

Comparing myself to my friends and teammates has always pushed me to train and race harder because i am a very competitive person.
Also, when I began to see steady improvement in my running, I became exponentially more motivated to get better.

It works better when you play a sport and you want to fit yourself for a season, playoffs or a special game. If it´s all about running, then just think that you are not going to be alive the following day and running is all you have to fight for. When you reach your limits (not enough oxygen to your brain), slow your pace but don´t stop. By the way, music helps a lot.

How hard is cross country in high school?

Hello,

Motivation is a unique phenomenon. What makes me "tick" may not work for everyone. But, in general, I like it when I meet a goal. I like to sign up for a race and beat my best time, or run a new distance. It feels great when you set a goal, train, and meet your goal. If this is in-line with your aspirations...make sure that you set a realistic target. It's better to smash your goal and set a new one (mentally), than it is to miss an overly aggressive goal.

Use the tools below to help you set some goals & meet them. Another motivator: Share your goals with others. If I share my goal race time with others, I'm more likely to attain it!

Best of luck.

What type of workout will help me run the 100m, 200m, 400m?

For me, its very personal. I enjoy setting and meeting goals for myself.

A couple years ago, the goal was "Im going to finish a marathon",
this year, its "Im going to finish in under 3:30"

You feel great when you meet one, and try to make the next one harder.

I have a question about my shoes?

What motivates me is knowing that I am doing what my body wants me to do. Our bodies are designed to move under their own power over distances, but like all things they have their limits.

Too much distance, speed or racing (as well as too little) leaves me feeling flat and unmotivated. I feel best about my running when I finish a workout knowing I did what was right for my body that day, under those circumstances. Somedays that's an easy three miles in the park, others it's a set of 400 m. intervals, other days its a 15 mile run in the country or a fast 10-K race. Some days it is just taking a rest from running.

Listen to your body and find out what it is trying to tell you. What's right for me today may be wrong for you or even wrong for me tomorrow. If you can tune in to your body's messages you'll find that - over the long term - you'll be the best you can be.

What is a suicide pace?

there are many reasons why i am motivated to run.

1. to stay in shape
2. to be proud of my body
3. to become better at hockey and basketball
4. runner's high
5. peace of mind
6. to set new goals - half marathon, marathon, etc.
7. to see more of my neighborhood
8. to escape the in-laws and/ or co-workers
9. to get rid of any stress
10. because my dog loves it

i ran a half-marathon last year and was incredibly happy that i finished. since then, i have not pushed myself, instead i have chosen to run for shorter distances. but when the weather improves, i will probably push my body to the limits again. there is nothing like running in new territory. a rush that i remember for the rest of the day.

I really need an anwer!?

i guess what motivates me is the simple fact i enjoy running.. i enjoy getting up at dawn and heading out the door to get an early morning run in, when you have a passion for something as much as i do running it comes natural to improve because you do it so frequently that you are bond to improve. Not only do i train to get better but i just enjoy running in general. nothing beat getting up first thing when everyone is asleep and running alone all by yourself just you and your surroundings.

Should I buy Nike air max 2003 ?

My main motivation is my friends. There's nothing better than a morning run with some of my buds. I also like getting a 'fresh air fix' on a daily basis. When I'm done with a run I feel more alert and ready to continue my day. Can you tell I'm addicted?

I am 15 year old freshman and I run a 5:34 mile. Should I try out for track?

what motivates you to become better is entirely up to you..it doesnt matter why you get out on the roads or on the track as long as you're doing it for the right reasons. I do it because it's what i love to do...i'm motivated by the simple human nature to drive to be the best. i get out there and see if i can push the limits of the human body and go faster and faster each time. Plus running is something everyone can do...nike has a quote that says something like this "There are friends you can't have, and clubs you'll never get into, but the roads are always open. If you're looking to motivate yourself. you have to decide why you're running in the first place...

Better times, fitter and healthier. And watching people who have never ran before run the London Marathon, and thinking to myself: "If they are out there doing it, then so can I!"

I am sooo worried?

Truthfully, nothing motivates me more than the fact that the better I am at running, the better I feel about myself. There's no fitness goals involved, since I'm already too skinny and by most people's standards need to bulk up (I agree with this, and am trying to put on some fat or muscle or SOMETHING...but it doesn't really work). There's no competition, since to me running just isn't a competitive sport. I don't need to prove anything to myself- I already know I'm a pretty good runner, when I put my mind to it-not the best, but then again, I don't really want to be the best. So basically, it's the fact that I feel better about myself, and am happier with myself when I run that motivates me to become a better runner. That, and the fact that if anyone ever tries to mug me, I'll be able to outrun him-lol ♥
