Does wearing spikes rather than trainers when competing make your time considerably faster?

Answers:

Does using an orthotic change the type of running shoe you can wear?

There is no such thing as "considerably faster" when it comes to sprinting. Even when you go full out, it is difficult to shave even a half second off your time...that's just the nature of sprinting.
Anywho, wearing spikes will help you. The spikes give you better traction. You plant - and then take off. If you've noticed, the spikes are on the front portion of the shoe only. This forces you to run on the balls of your feet. In turn, you conserve energy (by not running flatfooted) and you can propel yourself forward faster. Spikes are also much lighter than trainers.
Having said that, make sure that you practice running in them a few times. Spikes tend to lack the normal support that trainers have. Your ankles, toes, heels and achilles can all suffer if you don't have experience running in them.
Your coach should be able to recommend a pair for you. Believe it or not, there is a difference between sprint spikes and distance spikes, so you want to make sure you buy the right ones.
Good luck!

How do i make people fall without them knowing it was me?

Of course. Not only do you get better traction, but the spikes are much lighter than training shoes, which increases your times. Obviously, it is noticed more in sprints and mid-distance races.

How can I run quickly?

Considerably faster...no...does it give you a slight advantage?...yes. Racing flats can weigh 3-5 ounces less than trainers and for a long race like a marathon, it may shave a few minutes off your time. For a race like the 400m...it may give you a second or two. Spikes can give you more traction on trail races and on the inside turns of tracks, but make sure that you check what type of track and if spikes are allowed.

In summary, racing flats & spikes can deinitely give you an edge and help you get your best time, but don't over-estimate their impact. Good luck!

How Fast?

of course more traction lighter.
