Is it recommented to eat energybar or anything or drink sports drink before a 4.5k run ..?

There are a few ways.

1. You can use a pedometer and estimate it based on a certain stride length (1 mile = 5,280 feet)
2. You can use the odometer in a car & drive your running loop.
3. Use Google Earth (see link below for details)
4. Get a GPS (most expensive option...but a cool toy!)
5. You could also jog around a 1/4 mile track and time yourself and use that as a pace estimator (Example: If it takes you 2:15 to do 1 loop..that's a 9-minute mile).

Hope that helps. Have fun running!

Mesure your running stride and divide the number of feet in a mile by the lenght of your stride. As long as you keep the same size running stride you will know how many steps to take to equal a mile more or less. Or just have someone drive off your route in a car.

Get a step counter if you don't wanna drive. It's pretty accurate in measuring the distance. Or, like everyone else said, drive and measure that way.

What are good ways to get in shape for track?

no way to tell for sure without a pedometer. If you run at a slow pace, 12-15 minutes. If you're pretty fast..8-10. Assuming you haven't done this before, you're probably in the 10-15 minute range. As you get more practiced, you could get that time down to below 8 minutes.

Is 10min 28 seconds in 2 laps ok?

I would count as I go. But then again, I am an obsessive counter.
I can tell you that there are 5,280 feet in a mile, so if you are running, and your stride is approximately 2 feet, then you would have run a mile when your count gets to 2,640!
Have fun.

you can measure it but that would be long. theres that nike thing you put in your shoe that measures how far you run get that its better and faster plus tells you other things.
