Do those energy drinks do a good work?
On Sunday there's a 1000m cross race and I've been running 13 km two times a week. Last time i finished second because I almost fainted on the finish line |-( but I'm pretty tough at long distances and sprints. So would it hurt to drink some kind of Red Bull before running to increase my energy for a while or would that destroy me after I stop running?

The main thing that is in "most" energy drinks is a lot of simple carbs. They will help give you an energy boost, but that is about it. They aren't really designed to be much more than that. If you want something of substance, stay away from then and go to a store, like GNC, and get something from there that would help in the long run. And yes, drinks like Gatorade and Powerade will leave you feeling worse after you have spent all the carbs that they give you. But for 1000m, you might be OK with the simple carbs. Longer races I would say get something better. No energy drinks usually have a lot of caffeine and other junk in them, maybe some electrolytes. You are better off drinking a nutrition drink from the health food store that is loaded with nutrients that your body needs. Ask the nutritionist in the store what is best.
Tips on improving my speed and endurance.?
personally, i think they only "work" because people expect them to work. i think they have a placebo "effect" on people.Does anyone know the 400 meter dash times needed to get a scholarship?
my brother drinks jolt. and he get so much energy he starts to shake. red bull really didnt do much for me when i tryed it so try jolti run track at my school to and what i drink that does a good job for me is gatorade i heard all these new sport drinks they are comming out with is bad and bad for your teeth
skip the Red Bull - the caffeine will actually hurt your running.
I suggest one of the carbo gels, or a high carb version of Gatorade.
Do not drink an energy drink! These will pull water our of your muscles and will lead to cramping and worsen you r performance. There are many safer and healthier alternatives. Eat an energy gel packet 10 minutes before your race and maybe a second when you are half way through. These cost $1.50 each and will help you run strong all the way to the finish line. Sports drinks are good for both pre and post race hydration which will also lead to more energy!
