Does trail running reduce shin splints?

Question:i started running again (stopped working out about 8 months ago), i used to get shin splints. the only two things that have changed are i am trail running and i have been wearing mbt shoes for the past 5 months when i walk to work (not for running).

i actually even bought the same pair of running shoes as they were the most comfortable even though i was getting shin splints.

im just curious to know of anyone else who has had this experience. i am not sure if the mbt's have helped or if its the uneven terrain in trail running that helps.

There are several theories on the causes of shin splints. It is believed to be brought on by running on hard surfaces, wearing incorrect shoes, or the angle of your feet to the direction of travel. Trails are usually much softer than streets or tracks, so this can help. The uneven terrain helps your body by conditioning more than the muscles necessary for running in a straight line on a flat surface. The rest you had should have helped you recover from your previous problems. There isn't always a simple answer and sometimes things are caused by a combination of events.

While walking briskly is it right to breathe through mouth?

really the only way to heal shin splints is to rebuild the muscle in front of your shin. if you work out one side you must work out the other or it will get weaker. so if you work out your calves you must work out your muscles over your shin if not the muscles over the shin will keep getting pulled back and your problems will persist my suggestion is to do toe pulls.

Your shoes probally help a little being comfortable than usual. But deffeintly just sticking to the soft terrain helps you a lot.

I cured my shin splints with resistance bands. Connecting the band to my foot and attaching the resistance band to my weight bench I would sit on the floor and extend my foot towards the bench and then pull my foot back 15-20 times. As my strength increased I increased the resistance.
