Tire rubber track...which am i better off with??
for my regional and county meets the track is on like an all weather track. it is made of like tire rubber. i was wondering if i should wear my 3/8 pyramid spikes or my rubber spikes. my concern is that with my metal spikes they will get stuck in the rubber track. What are your opinions/advice?
Answers:
the rubber are for grass, for all weather track you're suppose to wear metal spikes smaller than 1/4 pyramid. the 3/8 might be a little to big, try getting smaller ones. my opinion is they will get stuck.
I'm trying hurdles for the first time this year, any suggestions?
We have a rubber track at my school. I would wear the metal ones. They dig into the ground and push you off better. And they wont get stuck. I've never tried rubber spikes, though, and they might make your steps bouncier, you know, rubber on rubber.Do you know who Brandon Bing is?
I only run the 800, and the truth is 3/16 needle spikes are better off for rubber because they allow you to pivot your foot unlike pyramids which is better off when you don't run the curves.IMO: I would buy titanium needle 3/16 if your in the 2:02, 800 range because the weight is 2 grams extra per foot unlike the steel ones which is 5.4 grams. You would never find a runner who runs an amazing 800 wearing 3/8 on artificial track.
In your case, use the 1/4 Pyramid. 3/8 is too much depth into the rubber and will slow your turnover down.
metal spikes don't stick into synthetic tracks because those are what they are designed for. I would use the needle spikes because the pyramids are fatter and therefore might not provide ideal traction.
