Anyway, the best thing you can do is keep running; there is nothing else that compares as far as training. But let me tell you: it sound like you may be trying to run too fast! Do NOT worry about speed ad this point. It's all about keeping your heartrate up for as long as you can: not about running a fast mile. Thus: you are better running three 9:00 miles than trying to click off a 6:00 mile. Even do a jog/walk combo if that's what it takes, because this way you will keep your heartrate up and your lungs working for the maximum amount of time. Trust me: build endurance and speed will come. Another good trick is "Long Day/Short Day." On one day do what I described above: nice and slow and for a long time. then on the next day, go ahead and click off your fast one or two miles. This way you build speed (fast twitch muscles) and endurance. It is called "alternate training."
Can you over ice? for shin splints? tendonitis?
Breathe deeper breaths when just sitting around. It'll "stretch" your lungs. Are you "carrying" extra weight?
Try running several fast 100-yard dashes and several 1- & 5- milers while trying to get faster in each. There's really no "quick" way other than practice.
How can I build a stronger core to help with running?
Okay I know the perfect idea for this. My track coach, gym teacher, and my All Scholastic Champion of a brother told me the same thing. It's really cheesy but it works.Smell the flowers, blow out the candles.
Do this and don't exactly consentrate all on your running. Just try to remember to breath in through you nose and out through your mouth,
wow that is a great question. 3 things you can do
1st while watching TV or do this for 30 min or even an hour, lay with a weight on your chest and breath normally. This will make your lungs alot bigger
2nd while your stretching take big breathes
3rd while running, run then hold your breath for a certain distance then breath till you catch your breath then do it again.
These things especailly suggestion 1 will dramitcally increase your lung capacity
When I was younger and I had trouble controlling my breathing I had a coach who told me to use "power pills". For example if we had a 400 at every 100m mark we were supposed to take a controlled breath and let it out. While we run we can forget how important it is to breathe properly. This exercis helps you control and focus on your breathing and it also helps you relax while you run. So if you go for longer runs, you should have some marks throughout your run where you will take your "power pills".

I need to run a fast mile and have High endurance quick??
First, your doctor may be wrong. Slow down a little bit and see if you still get winded. You may be running too fast.More Questions & Answers...
