What is a good time for a 14 year old guy at the mile in track?
Question:My fastest time last year was 5:14.
My cross country season was a complete bust, I was too injured to jog... But now, I'm running on the tread mill till track! I'd better not get slower...
Answers:
One x-c course I raced on in High School was particularly difficult, with two long uphill climbs, a patch of gravel right after a short up-down hill, and a half-mile of soft dusty horse track. The course record for a long time was rather slow for x-c times (until one out-of-state racer shattered it at an invitational). Other courses were less difficult, and had faster times.
As a 13-year old, I ran a 6-minute mile without breaking a sweat (no one was fast enough for me to have to push myself faster). At 16 or 17, my fastest unofficial time was about 4:45, maybe 4:50, I don't remember now.
As for not getting slower, talk to your coach and follow a training schedule so you peak at the end of the season instead of in the middle or worse yet, at the beginning of the season. I was in an accident the summer before my junior year, and got back on my training program as soon as I was physically able, and went to region and state that year, and was faster still the next year. It is definitely possible to recover from injury and do well, so keep up the hard work. Especially if you're a talented runner, keep up the hard work, and you'll be that much faster!
Keep going for the five minute mark. A good cross country time in our area seems to be in the 16's. Keep working hard.
Jogging - More speed or endurance?
a good time would be about 5:10a great time would be 5:00 or under
you want to shave about 10sec a year off your mile until you reach 4:40 then about 5 sec a year.
But this really just depends on how hard your work, how dedicated you are and your ability to run. Age doesnt classify a time

Great! My record at 1,600 m. (Something like 1 mile) was 5:53...Whats the best running shoe out of these ?
When my husband was a Senior in HS he ran a 4:19 mile. He now is in his early 30's and runs marathons and still loves it!I think if you can hit anything under 5:00 you are doing awesome! Keep up the good work.
