Middle distance track?

Question:ok I am about to try out for our high schools track team. and trying to be a distance track runner. What is it? Because I signed up for it because it sounds like something I could do.How far do they run? Do you have to run really fast or at a moderate speed? And what kinda training do I need to do to get ready for it?
thanks

What is a college cross country and track coaches average salary?

-Middle distance is any distance on the track of 800m or above. Typical distances are the 800, 1500, 3000/5000, 10000 & maybe 3000m steeplechase.
-Middle distance is certainly not sprinting but requires a mixture of speed & endurance. The speed is vital for the often close finishes, & the endurance will help u last the distance.
-Joining your local club will help you find a group to train with & let u do some quality sessions. Long steady runs of 20mins or over will improve your endurance, whilst speedier group seesions will make u faster.
-eg sessions. 1) 30minute steady run
2) 20minute run consisting of: 5min easy, 5 moderate, 5 fast, 5 easy.
3) Fast 400m reps with 2mins recovery. start with 6 & progress to 12-16
4) Hill reps. 100m sprint uphill, slowly jog/walk back. repeat x10
Good luck!

Do sprinting and enderance use differnt musels I mean what makes you good at one but not good at the other?

First of all, just have fun. Distance people are great to be around and you'll get to know them well. Distance for high school track is more then a mile and less then a 5k (3.1 miles) In high school Mid Distance is 800m too 1 miles. You run at a distance pace which is not job but not a spirit. You only spirit at the begining and at the end.

Does running effect your abs even the littlest bit?

Well distance track is all about endurance and some speed.

800m alone is practically considered a sprint these days, times around here for grade
9 highschool is around 2:20.25 -2:49.09
grade 10 2:09.41 - 2:26.58

1500M
Grade 9- 4:19.19 - 5:18.65
Grade 10- 4:32.59 - 6:06.14

3000M
Grade 9 - 10:25.34 - 11:19.64

and they can go up to 5000M, plus the steeplechase

so as you see you're gonna have some kind of training and strength behind you. Your workouts will include long runs, repeat runs, circuits (Fartleks) and some speed work(from 150M) for finishing kick

Annoyances in 5,10,15ks?

no such thing as middle distance track

at my high school track team 4 different things:

Thorwers: Dicus and Shotput
Sprinters: 100m, 200m, 400m, 400m Relay, 800m Relay, 1600m Relay
Jumpers: Pole Vault, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump
Long Distance: 800m, 1600m, 3200m and also the 1600m Realy

5k only exists in high school Cross Country and College Track and the Olympics

Im in long distance: training is sort of slow speed and has gets going it gets faster... it's really fun once you get into. Long Distance Runners need a lot flexiblity because you to flex your abs as you run. also the speed for races depends on the the race the 800m is pretty fast, 1600m (Mile) (4 laps) is moderate to slow, 3200m (2 Miles) (8 laps) is slow speed. To train yourself to be in long distance take a 30-50 minute run anywhere. Make sure you stretch afterward to increase flexibilty.

I hope this helps.

How to choose a good pair of trainers?

Well, I run track myself. The advice I would give you is to have a pair of good running shoes and dress for the weather. You would probably run about 5 or 6 miles a day to get in shape.
Being a middle distance running will cause for some foot speed during some part of the race. The best advice I can give you now is to start training on your own to get better.

How many calories should i take before a long distance race?

well im a junior at my high school this is my 3rd year in varsity and middle distance is the 400m and the 800m,,, and guys that i run with at my school for the 400m they run about 48 through 52 and the 800m are 1.56 through 2.02 so yea u gotta hall it..but im a sprinter

How to improve our samina when it comes to long distance running?..?

if your running the 800 you better sprint the whole thing or your going to get beat there are a few people on here that you could beat in the 800 because the arnt running their fastest the whole race to train you need to run the distances that you are going to race and then set a goal time for that distances for example they800 shoot for 2:00 that means your going to be running the 400 in 60sec that means you need to run 200 in 30sec and to do that you must get in shape and sprint have fun and give your self a chance it might take you a while but if you belive in your self and train hard and run a smart race you will be a winner

I don't want to be the worst runner!?

For distance, I suggest a high mileage workout. Build up a good endurance base first by running about 3 miles a day. Work on it. Speed is key, build up speed endurance!
