Whats a good running form?


im pretty much in good shape to run but my form sucks and slows me down tremendously.. what is the best form?

How can I keep my abs from cramping when I'm running/jogging?

The proper form is pretty simple when you get used to it. Keep your arms at a 90 degree angle, and your fists should move from hip to pectoral when running. Try to keep your arms parallel to each other. Stay loose, don't tighten your legs. Land on the balls of your feet. Try to "rake" the track with your feet, and remember to push - never pull. Pulling yourself makes you drastically slower. When running, lift your leg over your other knee. Breath in through your nose, and out of your mouth. If it helps, make a nickel shaped hole with your lips when breathing out.

Stand up straight, let your shoulders sag, do not hold them up, keep your elbows at 90 degress and let your arms swing from front to back, not across your body. If you are running easy land mostly flat footed or on the ball of your foot slightly ahead of your center of gravity with your foot coming backward at the same speed you are moving forward. Do not land too far ahead of your center of gravity. Breath with full, not gasping breaths. If you can not talk you are running too fast. Try to stay relaxed. As your speed increases your stride will increase, but remember it should increase behind you, not in front, so do not reach out with your foot, that only breaks your motion and tires out your quads.

There are many different tips to help you improve your form. One of the smallest but yet helpful tips was that when you are swinging your arms forward (not sideways) make sure you don't clench your fists because it takes away your strength causing stress and tiring out your arms. As you run keep your fists open as if you 'picking apples' from a tree. I know this is only a small part of running forms but there are many different ways and techniques. Good Luck Running.
