What is the hilliest marathon in the USA?
I love hills and would like to know the hilliest courses in the USA.
Answers:
Monster has 5560 ft of total climb (link #1). As their website claims, "No one will qualify for Boston here". Yonkers is a loop where you have to go through a hill with an elevation of 250 ft twice (!), and the rest is just up and down hills without anything flat (link #2).
One of the toughest and hilliest has to be the Whiskey Row marathon in Prescott, Arizona. Starts downtown at an elevation of about 5450 feet and goes up to approximately 8200 feet with plenty of hills to get you up there. Although a lot of the final 10+ miles is a rolling downhill it's literally a bear with all that altitude gain overall. Also, the August Pikes Peak marathon is, no doubt, really the A+ toughest, but a lot it is on trails with very little road or asphalt surfaces.
What is the food that will boost your energy 1 to 2 hrs before a fast 4.5km Run ..?? Tip ..?
I've heard that the Catalina Marathon (Southern California) is quite a bear. It's usually run in March around the same time as the LA Marathon. Happy trails!- Mike
The Big Sur marathon in Carmel, CA, is the hilliest marathon that I know of. It's the third Sunday in April each year.
Either Pikes Peak marathon in colorado or Big Sur in Carmel CA. I did big sur and it was hilly but awesome and beautiful. Look into San Francisco Marathon too, it may not be the hilliest but may be the hilliest of all the major city marathons, also my favorite marathon of all.
