What does it mean if the outside of my leg hurts when i run?
Question:Okay, so I'm a highschool sophmore this year and used to play football. Now I'm in track and field trying to change my physique and strength for shoput and discus.
A problem I've had doing cardio since forever is that when I run past 1/4 mile, the side of my leg (closer to my ankle) (towards the outside) will begin having like a straining pain.
When i workout, I never have this sort of problem, so I was wondering what you think of this?
My coach said it might have to do with the way I run or that i twisted my ankle, but I havent hurt my ankle for a year(minor sprain).
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

What happen if u didn't run for week?
If you had a strain or sprain in that location it may be old scar tissue that is acting up...I would go see a sports medicine therapist.they will be able to better tell you then anyone else. It sounds like the pain is coming from where your fibula meets your ankle and there are several ligaments there. If it is up on the bone it may be a "shin splint" or stress fracture. Make sure your shoes are no more than 6 months old and that you have gone to a specialty running shoe store that watches you run in your shoes (they make sure that your foot strike (way your foot hits the ground) is correct). Good luck!Pain from running barefoot...?
it sounds like you have shin splints i have it to and i don't know what to do with it either. the people i asked said it takes like 2-3 weeks to get betterIf it is low and on the outside of your ankle it is probably not shin splints. It could be your shoes and the way you are striking the ground. You had an injury last year? It doesn't hurt at any other time? Only after 1/4 mile of running. Does it swell up or discolor? You might try running on the grass or use different shoes.

i think its shin splints. i havnt had them but some people on my track team have. they wrap their shins with an ace bandage and run through it or they take 2-3 weeks off and usally dont come back after that if the start of the season. just wrap your ankle and take it easy for a little bit but still keep running. i throw shot and discus too so let me know if you learn any tips, ill be a freshman girl next year and this year i set my middle schools school record, first year doing it but i want some help over the summer. thanks.More Questions & Answers...
