Is it possible to train for the half-marathon in 11 weeks?

I'm new to running, having started about four months ago. I've done a bunch of 4 miler races (at a 10 minute/mile pace). Am I risking injury if I try to push train for the half-marathon in 11 weeks? I heard that you're only supposed to increase mileage at 10% per week.

Should I start with a walking program before starting a jogging program?

Most half marathon training programs consist of training for 12 weeks (see link #1 for a sample program). They expect you to be able to comfortably run about 3 to 4 miles before the first day. With your experience of running 4 mile races at a good starting rate, I would consider you a very good candidate to train for a half marathon. I see no reason why you would not be able to complete it in 11 weeks with the proper training.

I would highly recommend that you join a local half marathon training program. You can search for them at the Active.com website (see link #2). If you want to train in 11 weeks, I presume that there is a half marathon already scheduled. You may be able to find a training group at the half marathon website. Regardless, training groups will tell you all of the pitfalls that are associated with training for a half marathon so that you do not get injured during your training. Also, they can provide crucial support for you when your training begins to seem too difficult and you begin to consider quitting.

Good luck on your training~!

Planning to become a 100 meter sprinter, any suggestions?

How fast can you run in 3 km?

you can definatly be in shape to do a half marathon in almost 3 months. granted you wont be the first to finish and it wont be a personal record forever. but you can do it, it wont be overtraining if you take it slow and train right. watch your diet train right and get proper sleep and youll be fine. best answer me please if this helped

Should 50 km races really be called ultras?

It is most definitley possible to train in just 11 weeks...

Granted, you won't be in the best shape of your life, but it is a start..

I don't know where you heard about this 10% business...
Dont listen to that...

Don't run four miles each day at the same pace. Change it up. One day do 5 miles, but go at a slower pace. Or do 3 and go much faster. This helps with the constant shift and having to adapt to changes...which will come in handy in a race...

As the weeks pass, you'll feel yourself gradually getting stronger, allowing you to pick up your pace untill you have be running four miles at a 9 minute pace...go as you feel but push yourself hard enough to know that your working for something you love...

I am currently a sophmore in high school and I run the two mile...I won state x-c and track my freshman year and have won the junior olympics in both the mile, two mile, and 4X8 relay...

You can trust me with this stuff ;)

Good luck with your training, if you ever have any questions..please feel free to ask I'd love to be of a help!
