Really skinny people run the fastest?
I'm watching the Boston Marathon and all these really skinny people won. When they bring the cameras to the people still running they are bigger or muscular.
Answers:
What can i do to jog faster and last longer? I have no clue...?
For the elites it may be the skinniest, but there's actually an ideal weight for most runners. I've taken this information from The Competitive Runner's Handbook: The Bestselling Guide to Running 5Ks through Marathons by Shelley and Bob Glover. Here's the chart for male runners, medium frame, with the target weight. Just remember that it will depend on frame size and smaller framed runners can weigh less, larger can weigh more. You should go more by your body composition of fat vs. muscle.
The target weight is about 10% above and 10% below the ideal weight range for each height. The book says for most runners their best performance will be at their target weight or slightly under it.
Height/Target Weight/Weight Range
5'6"-145 (132-158)
5'7"-147 (134-161)
5'8"-150 (136-163)
5'9"-152 (138-166)
5'10"-154 (140-168)
5'11"-156 (142-170)
6'-158 (144-173)
increases about 2 lbs per inch
For fat, it says:
5-8% for Elite distance runners
8 - 12% for Advanced and Champion Competitors
12 to 15% for Novice, Intermediate, and Basic Competitors. The average american male should be 15 to 20%. Above 20% for men is considered overweight, and above 25% is obese.
Here's the info for females, medium build with target weight and weight range:
Height/Target Weight/Weight Range
5'1"-105 (95 - 116)
5'2"-108 (97 - 119)
5'3"-111 (100 - 122)
5'4"-114 (102 - 125)
5'5"-117 (105 - 129)
5'6"-120 (108 - 132)
5'7"-123 (111 - 135)
5'8"-126 (113 - 138)
5'9"-129 (116 - 142)
5'10"-132 (119 - 145)
Essential Body Fat%: 11 to 13
Elite Distance Runners: 13 to 17
Advanced and Champion: 17 - 20
Novice, Int., and Basic Comp.: 20 - 23
Avg. American Woman: 23 - 26
Overweight: 26 - 35
Obese: over 35
The best way to test body fat at home is the skinfold test with some calipers. You could also use one of the online bodyfat calculators that has you take some measurements. Any method is an approximation, and calipers are usually accurate within 3% and less accurate in the lower ranges. You can also stand in front of a full length mirror and jump. Anything that shakes and shouldn't when you land is fat.
Is 15-16 seconds for the 100 meter dash a bad time for an 8th grade girl?
YOu figured it out~!Tips for running for further and longer?
They're skinny because they run 20 miles a day. I bet though you could beat them in the 100.What gear do cross country runners use more?
The less weight you have to carry with you the faster you're able to go!First of all, Jeff S. is lame because you probably wouldn't be able to beat the fastest boston marathon finisher in a 100m dash race since they end up averaging a 4:45/mile pace closing their last 6 miles at about 4:25 pace. These guys can break 4 minutes for the mile and can probably run a 13 second or 12 second 100m dash. The average person can't run a 13 or 12 second 100m. Hahahahaha.
When it comes to being skinny and running. Yes, every pound you can safely lose is 6 seconds from your 10k time. Not to mention that the fat people probably don't train as much or as hard as the top finishers.
How can I avoid sore ankles after a run?
you dont have to weigh 50 pounds to beat someone who is heavier than you. i am heavier than some of the really skinny girls on my track team and i can beat them. =pWhat is the average speed for an experienced jogger?
skinnier people can run faster in longer distances. have you seen the 100-500 meter runners?! they're huge! and by huge i mean strong. wouldnt want to pick a fight with any of them. depends on what a person wants to specialize in.Looking for the shortest and most all around ridiculous running shorts on the market?
Skinny people aren't always faster; for example, I'm the skinniest person on my track team (out of distance and sprinting) but I'm only in the middle of the pack when it comes to finish times in races. Most of the girls who beat me have on a few more pounds than I do, but in a good way. Just saying...being skinny doesn't necessarily make you faster. However, in the Boston marathon? Those guys train so much, it's hard not to become skinny. Are my times where they should be??
Half of these answers come from people who do not know much about the sport as a whole. I train with an olympic competitor who is a two time indoor 400m world champion. Eventhough he's taller and leaner than me, but I can outrun him in a 100m dash. I am not a world class athlete and can still out run him. By the way he runs the 400 in 44sec. Body weight does have an impact on the way you compete but what's really important is your body mass and the way you compete. With people focusing on strength, they will tend to be bigger competitors like Xavier Carter and Michael Johnson (when he ran). The really skinny people that you refer to probably have most of there weight from muscle mass. Being skinny helps out only a lil bit. And by the way, out of the one's considered to be the elite group the bigger ones in that group are normally the winners!More Questions & Answers...
