Should the Boston Marathon been held today?
What about the athletes did the organizers use good judgement?
Answers:
In 110 years, the Boston Marathon has never been canceled for weather. Even the worst case scenario for the weather predictions is pretty mild compared to other years when the Boston Marathon continued on as planned. Runners slogged through cold torrential rains in 1970, five miles of snow squalls in 1967, and snow and drizzle in 1908.
Besides, all the runners have earned the right to be there, and they generally want to run no matter what the conditions. Nothing stopped those who came before them, and nothing will stop them either. If the athletes were really that concerned (and I am willing to wager that very few seriously were), they have the option to simply not run this year.
All things considered, the organizers made a sound judgment, and the weather only brought a bigger spotlight to a great sporting event.
What is a good meal to eat the night before a big race?
What about them? They are running the race and I can see no reason not to.It's my opinion that a race should almost never be canceled. Ice or some other natural disaster might be an exception. It should be up to the runners and the organizers should be prepared to deal with any problems that come up.
Today, it was just some strong wind and a little rain. I've run in far worse conditions and lived.
