Is running in the beach a good exercise?


I've been going to the gym for almost 3 years now. I had an accident with my car and lost it. since i don't have a car to go to the gym i decided to run an walk at the beach until i get another car. Is running at the beach a good exercise? I run and walk for like an hour, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Is this days enough?

Running on the beach is very preferable to running on pavement. Contrary to previous posts, running on sand is much less likely to induce injuries because sand gives way much more than pavement and is thusly easier on joints. An ankle roll may not have a long term effect past that day, while a repetitive motion injury (I sprained both of my MCL's during XC season) can keep you out of running for months (in my case it was from October to March).

Walking, jogging is always good. Be careful where and how you walk, run on the beach. If you are on a slope it could affect your legs and hips. 3 times per week is fine for general well being.

It certainly is if you see lots of bikini clad girls. Otherwise, no big deal!

yea running on the beach is a good workout and tougher than running on pavement (like the person above me said) but it also makes you more prone to rolling your ankles and other injuries since it is a less stable surface. running an hour a day is a good workout for some people but it depends on what your goal is.

Yes it's a great way to work out. Navy Seals run about 15 miles on the beach for a workout.(at least the ones I've read about) That's because the sand creates friction, and it causes the work out to be more strenuous

Beach running is the best. It'll take you some time to get used to it, but it is much better then running on pavement. You have a great program outlined, and that's sometimes the hardest part.
