Why isn't ultrarunning more popular?
Is it the time commitment required? Is it because it's too boring to televise? What do you think would increase its popularity?

Should i keep on running track?
I think the secret of ultra running might already be getting out. I know several people, including myself, that are planning to run their first ultra distance. I think it already is increasing in popularity. I've been told that this month's Trail Runner magazine starts off with an article on the increased popularity of ultra running, citing a number of races that are filling to the max where they never did before. (one in just over 7 minutes!)I think training for an ultra event is misunderstood. Training is not necessarily any more time consuming than a marathon. In fact, longest runs for a 50 miler are usually around 25 miles and you can train for an ultra on 40 - 50 miles per week. However, your long run should simulate the race and run at a slower pace and allow for walk breaks.
Women, may have an advantage with ultra-running due to their fat stores and burn fat better early in a race, saving glycogen stores for later. For men and women, ultra running on trails and hills is a lot easier on the body than road marathons. Recovery is quicker and soreness after the ultra is typically less. Also, age seems to be a factor with ultras where men in their 30s and 40s typically perform better than men in their 20s.
There's a lot of good things about ultra running and I think it is going to continue to grow in popularity.
i have no clue what that is
What distance is a Jr High Cross Country race?
Relatively speaking, it's a LOT more popular now than it was 10 years ago. Dean Karnz's 50 marathons in 50 days put ultra in the spotlight for awhile...there are a lot more local 30+ mile races...it's growing. I'm not sure it'll ever be a big spectator sport, though...how much fun would that be?...and just think...how many famous marathoners could you spot in a line-up? Face it...long-distance running is a humble sport...which isn't all that bad. Happy trails! How much do your abs play a part in running?
Ultra-marathons have been around for quite some time. It has taken the marathon craze about the last 20-30 years to get the publicity it has drawn. Ultra-marathons are starting to catch on, but it will take more time before people will start to get into an ultra-marathon craze.More Questions & Answers...
