Hamstring trouble?
I have been running for years, but only short distances a couple times a week. I stretch religiously, because I'm prone to shin splints, and my runners are relatively new. Lately, my hams have been seizing up during the day after my run. I try to stretch it out, but it's fairly persistent. Why is this suddenly happening?

Could I ever get a college track scholarship?
Are you drinking enough water, staying hydrated? How about potassium - you getting your share?I don't know how old you are, and I don't mean to be presumptuous, but - like all of us - you might be getting older. It's pretty amazing how fast certain physiological processes change at certain points as we age. I'll bet that if you pay more attention to hydration and start taking a multi-vitamin, you might feel some improvement.
Check out some online information, too - www.webmd.com for medical, www.halhigdon.com for running.
What I would suggest is ask a sports trainer. There is one at this site who ran track in college and could help you.Check them out and good luck.

The only hamstring problem I encountered was within the first 2 weeks after a marathon. Just outta nowhere, but it took me quite a while to get rid of it. I suggest rest and the good advice given by your first 2 responders.
Good Luck
How can I stop getting stitch when I'm running?
It might be dehydration, or tightness. Stretch, but do not over stretch. It is important to stretch after you cool down. Massage can help. If your legs are actually seizing up rather than just being sore and tight then you may be able to help them through massage. Drink plenty of water, take potassium and niacin. How do you help with muscle soreness?
make sure you hydrate during running and rehydrate well after running. Also try to eat a banana for potassium and replace the salt lost during sweating.More Questions & Answers...
