The beep test is an excellent way to monitor fitness as well as getting a decent workout in a short period of time, even very fit people are unable to perform a beep test for more than 10 minutes whereas they can run continuously for 30-60 minutes.

The beep test is basically where you measure a distance of say 15-20 meters and mark it out with 2 objects or lines, then run between then to the speed of the beep which is progressively faster.

Basically, the idea is to keep running between these 2 points until you hit your aerobic threshold, and fall over in a screaming heap, gasping for air. Your aerobic threshold is determined when you cannot reach the target line in time of the next beep.

I don't know how you can "prepare" for it except to have exercised for a few days before. Since you're taking the beep test later today, the best advice I can give is to just eat something light for lunch, perhaps some pasta and a banana. Also, don't forget to drink plenty of water or a sports drink beforehand. Finally, avoid any soda or snacks.

During the beep test, you want to start off really nice and slow, and try not to get too excited when the intensity starts to increase. Nervousness just wastes precious energy that you will need when you get close to your limit.

There's no need to worry, it will all be over in about 10 minutes or so. Good luck.
