How can I build up my stamina for running, especially for soccer pre-season?

Ok, there's a simple answer to this one. Just give it time. It was your FIRST race of the season, and I'm guessing it was probably your first race of the YEAR. If this is the first time you've been running since last year, of course you are not going to be in the shape you were in when you ran your best time last year. Just give yourself time to get it back. Keep working hard in practice and you will get your speed and endurance back. It was just one blow-up race. There's next time, and the time after that, and the whole season! Don't worry about one bad race, especially if it was your first one! :)
Good luck! I know you'll be fine! :)

Keep practicing. I don't know if you've been during the running off season but the best thing you can do now is to practice running everyday and push yourself to run a little faster every time.

wear stream line clothing (close to your skin) and run run run everywhere you go. Everywhere! also make sure you use the restroom before competing (loses about 2-5lbs off your body) If you have gained weight then maybe a medically approved diet is in order. How did Bill Bowerman make his track shoes?

just keep working hard=]

Im honestly not trying to be racist but why...?

i really hope you mean like a minute and .09 seconds...
that 1.09 is really confusing especially to say that in a track manner (try saying 60.09 if that's what you mean, ppl will understand you better)

try running on your toes if you dont already.
learn to divide up how you will run the 400 (i.e. run the first 100 at 75% then work up.)
training wise, i would try to do intervals of 400,500, and 600 (preferably the 600 b/c that builds up endurance and speed)

What is the VTOmax rating score for 12 year olds in Australia?

Keep going to practices, what are you doing in practices, has anything changed? Remember it's your 1st meet and noone ever runs their personal best in the 1st meet, the times will come down in each race you run,if you keep practicing maybe change your practices a little as the practices that worked last year needs to be incresed to move to the next level you're not a beginner anymore so your workouts need to reflect that.Hey Asafa Powell didn't break the world record till late in the season not on his 1st outing remember, or anyone that broke a world record as a matter of fact. Keep working and racing.

Thick throat, unable to swallow...?

sounds like it is early in season! do not worry! you will get better as season goes on! that is a good time, 60.9! a good coach has his team peaking at the right time, and that is at the league meets! by end of season, i predict you will run about a 59!

Who's faster?

It's probably been awhile since you've ran, just give it some time, train hard, and you time should drop pretty soon.

Flexiblity improving speed?

What is different this year from last year? Running over 20 seconds slower is a big deal. Do you remember what you ran at the first of last year? What kind of workouts did you do then as compared to now? If you are just starting and have not gotten into shape you should improve your times. You can look at your training and have an idea about what your race time will be. Also as you race your times will improve. It takes racing to get sharp, because you can not run as hard in practice as you can in a race. Just look at doing your workouts and running your race.

Middle School Track?

wow i was just like that freshman year i got a 1:04 and then sophomore year i was at 1:10 i got better like my freshman year by running on my toes ( balls of my feet, not heel toe) i don't know if you do that lready but that helped also try traing a bit with distance to get your endurance up goood luck!

Track Training?

last year when you ran your PR (person record) you were prolly at your peak in the season. If it was near the end or twards the middle of the season it was probabally because you had been training all year, or long enough to get in shape so you ran the best time. Just give it some time this season. Work to your full ability in all the workouts at practice and in no time you'll run your PR, or better.

good luck!

It hurts in the back of my leg, what can i do to help it?

your are talking about nearly 3 tenths of a second on a 400m run! dont be worried about that.

that is in your start... all of it ... lengthen your stride once out of the tuck. that isnt a big deal ... just work on your start and stride it out to 200m every time. but push your start as hard as you possibly can.

once you tire out ... kill yourself on striding 400m ... but every time, again, push your starts!

Track injuries/advice for motivation.. I'm so unexperienced..?

Omg! YOu slow down!!
Come on don't make it a big deal!
YOu just need to practice harder and someday you will get better time!
I use to run 1 mile 6:08,
But I can't get that time any more in this pass 3 years, I try so hard try to get that time again, but I can't!
Once I was in a game, I got 6:05.
And once again in my practice, I got 5:50!
And that is my time!
don't worry, just run hard, and eat less junk foods, it will help!
