I am a beginner Discus thrower and my first meet is in three days any tips?
Answers:
Does anyone know where I can buy a decent pair of running shoes?
OK, its in three days, so any serious training advice wont help for this meet, but some good last minute tips.Listen to your coach.
Get a good sleep the night before.
Dont eat anything before the meet that you dont normally eat. Now is not the time to try something new.
Concentrate on your event, let everyone else worry about theirs.
Follow the same warmup routine for every meet. Stretch the same, tie your shoes the same, get your equipment the same. Use this to focus your mind and drown out interfering thoughts.
Dont worry about coming in first or breaking any records. Just try to get your personal best.
After your event, cheer like crazy for your own teammates!
Can anyone help me identify a college coach?
don't aim for the judges (i really saw this on a video) good luck. What's a good time for the 55 meter hurdles? for the 110 meter?
listen to your coach and stay behind the net when other are throwing (i saw a guy get hit in the head once it wasnt pretty)go online (well I guess you already are online...) and find pictures of discus throwers. Study their form and technique.
What are Tempo Runs? Time Trials?
Just concentrate on what you know and try to perfect it. If you have the fundamentals then that is what need to concentrate on when you are going into competition.Dont do anything too strenuous in the next few days and arrive as fresh as you can. Do a proper warm up and dont worry too much about the other guys around you. Just do well what you know and you'll learn heaps from your first competition. And have fun!
