How can I drop my 400 time?


Ok, I'm a junior in high school and I can run the 400 in 54 something, im not exactly sure on the time because it was really informal how they were timeing it but the worst it could have been was a really low 56. Anyways, I was on the wrestling team and in great shape then I didn't do anything until track season and thats when I got the 54 or 56. Also I can feel that my heart and lungs aren't in anywhere near as good of shape as during wrestling so i think i can do better. I'm shooting for the school record which is a 50.2. Now what can I do to drop 4-5 seconds by the end of my senior year? Thanks

you should try to start a workout schedule where you do one thing one day and something else another like one day run long distance like 2-3 miles then the next do sprinting like a ladder 100 200 ... to 400 or 800 then back down and then the next day work out a little easier. The main thing is to run a hard day then an easy day swapping out and you might try mixing up your routine so your not running the same thing week after week.

How long should I be icing and wrapping my shin splints?

400 used to be distance runner events in the old days but now they are for sprinters. I ran the 400 in the low 52 to high 51 and i trained by working up to running 2 miles sprinting 100 then jogging 100 then sprinting etc.

Since your a wrestler you know the discipline it takes to perform.
Speed and Endurance is what you will need for the 400m. For
speed workouts work on 3-4 repeat 50 to 75m all out. 3 - 4 100
to 200m at 85 to 90%. For endurance work on 2 or 3 600 to 800m still trying to maintain 80 to 85%

800m for 7th grade girl?

well...because you have such a long time to drop it get in shape for wrestling and once wrestling season is over dont stop excercising go to your schools weight room 3 times a week if you dont have a gym membership or home gym ... just dont stop running when there is a break...
