How hard is cross country in high school?

I am planning t do it next fall because football really didn't work out. I am in decent shape and want to know if it is hard and how to get ready. Also, does it help with baseball because of the running.

I would like some coaching tips on running like a great work out plan?

As a cross-country runner, I can tell you that it is the best sport to do if you are motivated to be better. This is one of the few main sports where you don't rely on your team to finish great; only you matter. Of course, how well your team did does factor in. However, your team cannot hold you back if you do well.

And a 13:30 3 mile? That's ridiculous. Not many people in the country can do that. To do well, however, expect to be able to run at least a 5:30 minute mile consistently.

High jump help?

my friends do it because they either do that or PE because they dont do any other sports , if you dont want to be hard core like my friends and do all the races the coaches will put you in easier races, if you wanna be hard core just get good at running LONG distances, i think football would help

What is good form when running (sprinting and long distance)?

it will help you with any sport and how hard it is depends on how hard your coach works you and how hard you choose to work. for example my coach is pretty tough on us and i also work very hard at it and in effect im the best on the team. and thats pretty good considering two years ago i was fourth best. so its all about how hard you choose to work at it. and long runs definatly help.

Safe Places To Walk or Run Around Los Angeles?

Well, the first couple of weeks of practice will be tough. Remember, the races are 3 miles, but practice usually begins at least 3 weeks before the first race, so you will be in good enough shape to do the race by then. If you want to get ready, you should run on your own over the summer before practice starts. You should try to get a five mile run in at least every other day. Remember if you've never run before to start out easy. Start with running 3 miles a day and work your way up to five. To be honest, I don't know how much cross country would help with baseball because the running in baseball is primarily sprinting to bases, and cross country helps a lot with endurance, but not sprint speed. It will help you not get worn out during the game though because like any other sport, you get tired after a while. Well I hope that helps and good luck with XC this fall!

Tips on running the mile?

Cross Country is a great sport and will have positive impacts on your other sports and your life. I would be lying if I said it was easy, though...it's hard work...but it's very rewarding. Try going out and jogging 2-3 times per week over the summer try to gradually build up to a 5-mile run by August. If you're really ambitious, sign up for a local 5k race and see how you do (that's the HS distance). The link below has a 5k training plan to help you out. Best of luck...you'll enjoy XC!

What are some good High Jump Tips fo track?

Cross country really is THE hardest sport in high school (this fact is disputed by many other teams, including the football team, cheerleading team, wrestling team, and quite possibly the gymnastics team.) However, it is true in most people's opinions.

Despite this, cross country is one of the easiest sports to do; all you do is run where your coach tells you. Yes, it'll be for longer than you're use to, and you'll be quite uncomfortable at times, but your coach will never force you to do something that will hurt you. Ok, basically...it's hard, but it's a bearable hard. If I wasn't about to turn off the computer and go to sleep, I'd go into more detail...but you get the picture. Good luck, and I think you should join-you'll have so much fun

How does one increase pronation (in other words, stop supination) of the foot when walking/running?

Whats a good time for a 16 year old running the 40 yard dash and im 150 lbs and 5 ft 9 inches?

well just to make varsity, you'll have to run a 4:08-4:10 mile and about a 13:30 3 mile .. so you're probably screwed

Hey all u hign jumpers I need your help?

Cross Country is a hard sport but it is also very competitive and it pays off when u join other sports. When you race you may ask yourself why you joined but just ignore that its a great sport.

Throwing discus?

First of all dont listen to Harry S, people who are that fast win state. In reality to be good and make state, you should be able to run about a 5 min. mile and about 16-18 min. 3-mile. but anyway Cross country is a hard sport plain and simple. But it is an amazing sport. You'll be amazed at how much better it makes u for baseball. The best part is, you dont have to be fast to start the year, the hardcore practices will get u in shape. Our practices are anywhere from 3 miles to 8 miles a practice

Can I tell if i am an overpronater by looking at my old running shoes?

It'll definitely help you in baseball, or any sport. In high school the workouts/ meets can get pretty intense and copmpetetive, but that's what sports are all about, right? Start training now. Start with shorter distance workouts, and work your way up as they become easier. Get a good pair of shoes, and don't work out every day. Take one or two days off each week. (But not in a row) It's VERY important to start easier and work your way up because I can almost garuntee injury if you don't.

Keep getting a stitch!?

It's as hard as you make it... if you want to jog the race, it will be easy. If you want to win, it will be hard! Run everyday and if you get injured take a day off because it's better to be running than injured!

What do the numbers on the New Balance shoes mean?

I stated running x-country this last year and it was one of the best experiences of my life! To get ready for it I just ran for about 15-30 min.(increase time and intensity the longer you have been running) every day for about a month before x-country season starts. It's hard work but it does help keep you in shape and make you a better runner all around. And yes it help your running in any and every sport. P.S. X-COUNTRY RULES!!
