Will i get faster if i continue to run a mile daily on 9? Or will it just build up my endurance?

Depending on which event you are doing will tell you how many people will actually be watching. The meet always starts with the 4x100m relay. The mile is always after that.

If you're running the 3000, which is the 2nd to last race, you probably wont have to worry about too many people watching as most of them have left well before that race as the sun has gone down and the main events are over.

There is always a little more buzz for the first heat in each race because these are the best runners for that event. After that it becomes somewhat monotonous.

As a distance runner it's especially important for you to get into a comfortable pace. Don't get freaked out if you are running 10/15/20 seconds faster than your normal pace after the first lap.

I would urge you to take a position in the middle of the pack on the outside. You don't want to get boxed in and staying off the leader will keep you from dying before the 2nd lap comes around. Just stay relaxed and breath deep and easy. Focus on your splits as you come around and on the people ahead of you. Whatever you do, don't look behind you.

All kinds of crazy things can happy during the race. People drop out, people get spiked, someone passes out. Just keep your eyes poised ahead of you. Pick someone out 2 laps in that you want to beat. Then pick them off as the race progresses. If you're racing in one of the lower heats you have to bring the energy and excitement to the race. The fans really only produce it once per event or at the end of a race if there is a great finish.

Stay relaxed and breath, it will be over before you know it.

What size spikes do a Asics Hyper MD track cleat have?

I loved the feel of a track meet. The smell in the air was different. The sound of the spikes on the track, the uniforms, the chatter of people, the endless possibilities, etc... I was a 330 hurdler and I sucked, but I still really enjoyed it. This is what you have been training for! All those conditioning exercises, and miles of running are about to pay off! Pace yourself, then push yourself in the last mile/half mile whatever your coach has instructed. Stay on top of the leaders if you are able, or don't be last and keep your eyes on the people in the rear. Sprint that last 100-200 meters and you'll pass a few. You'll have fun and before you know it, it will be over. Good luck! I hope you win!

As far as the guy below me goes, he is sort of correct. You don't want to watch the the entire time, but you need to keep them in your head so you know you won't finish last, which I think is your fear. If you have great speed and happen to be the leader, you also need to know where they are so you don't get snuck up on at the last second.

Shock absorbing insoles for shin splints?

How can I eliminate pains from drinking water during a run?

There are a lot of sucky people in track that think they are good, so i think you will do fine against other people. If you lose in front of people, who cares! They will be wayy to focused oin their kid that they wont even care about you. If they do see they will forget right when the other event starts! Track meets are fast. They go event event event as soon as the last ones done the other one starts, so make sure you are ready! Just do ur best and GOOD LUCK

Improving in long jump for track and field?

The track meet is the only reason peopel come back to track. Lets face it, track practices are lame, but track meets are so awesome that it makes up for the hard practices and much more.

Question about Nike+ iPod setup..?

Don't be scared. You'll only be nervous until after your first gun-shot. It's all down-hill from there.

How can I improve on my 2-mile run and the amount of sit-ups I do on my Army Physical Fitness Test?

First remember that there is nothing wrong with being nervous or scared. My son who is now a Senior in college use to get so nervous and worked up before he ran the 110 hurdles he would vomit and he was not the only one I have seen do this (high school meets) and believe me when he started track he was not that good but he ended up winning State in 2003.
My daughter is a freshman in high school and even though she ran in junior high she was very nervous her first two meets this year, now she is lovin it.
You have been training for this so you will do fine, you may not win the first time and you may even place last but don't worry about it, use that as motivation for your next meet. I have been going to track meets for 10 years and I have never seen anyone do or say anything negative because someone lost an event.
And as someone else mentioned, don't be looking around to see where others are, focus on passing that one that is right in front of you.
Good luck!
