How can you bounce back after a hard defeat?

i am junior cross-country runner, 11th grade, i've been in 4 races, my last race i got 3rd place, in my school race i finshed 11th out of 25 other students, to some that maybe ok, but for me it was dissapointing, i was not happy at all, i could even get into the top 10, it was frustating, it will be hard to get back on my feet after that defeat.

Is it not important?...?

Life in general can sometimes be disappointing. The quicker you realize that your recent setback is just one of those "speed bumps" on life's highway, the sooner you can get back into things, shrug it off, and realize your potential. Get out there and work! Sitting back and feeling disgusted and upset will not solve anything. Giving up is not the answer. Challenge yourself and start training. You can do anything you set your mind to!

How can I get 2 miles under 13 minutes?

If you want to keep running thats just what you're going to have to do! I'm sorry you have been disappointed but let that fuel your fire. You know how it feels to be defeated but now you want to win!

Sprint start?

The most important aspect of running is endurance! This applies to both physical and mental characteristics. You may have had a bad day, it doesn't really matter. Nothing should matter in running except how good you do against yourself, and only you!

Last season, I ran my first meet and got my worst time ever. I was pretty down on myself, but I ran the next meet and got my best time! It was pretty amazing. You just have to persevere and keep training. Just a few days a week will have amazing results.

Perseverance is the key. As long as nobody tries to rub it in, you should be able to take it. Tell yourself things like "No one deserves that top spot more than me." They are even more useful than those encouragements you see in the last three hundred meters.

Anyway, I hope you hop back into action, because the world could use some runners. Good luck! Persevere!

Half-marathon training schedule and tips?

I think you are already well on your way to solving the problem.

You are clearly unhappy about it. You don't like the result. You sound motivated to do something about it.

Sometimes taking your lumps is exactly what you need to improve.

Here's a couple of things to think about:

-Scout the course as much as possible before the race.
-Head into each race with a plan of attack, based on your strengths. If you are terrible on hills, plan accordingly.
-Get mad. Sometimes a healthy dose of fury, channeled properly can get you a better finish. Pick a guy in your race and make it your business to make him hurt. He's your "enemy". Run him down.
-Run smart. Budget your energy, and draft when possible.
-Don't beat yourself up. You won't win every race, even if you're Kenyan.
-Leave it all on the course. If you did everything you could out there, than be satisfied knowing that it wasn't your day.

You'll be fine. Stay positive. Wasting energy being disappointed accomplishes nothing. Move on, and up.

How can i do really well in my cross country?

The defeat is only in your mind. Nobody else cares. The sooner you get over it and realize that you only compete against yourself, the better you will be.

Good Luck
