Joining Track and field?
My friends recommended me to join track and i'm pretty fast too. I'm doing the sprints because i'm better at just sprinting but my coach told me to join long distance too because he says i would do well in that too. I tried long distance but i'm so used to just exploding out and i can't pace myself its way too tiring. So i'm wondering how do i pace myself for long distance running ?

it may also help to get a GPS watch, so you can monitor your actual pace and speed while you run. many will also beep to alert you if your pace is slower or faster than limits you set. the Timex Spee+Distance system is good and relatively cheap - under $100 on Amazon.
You need to find a beat. Like in a song. Then make your feet hit the ground on the beat. If you do not know how fast to start try getting some marine corps cadence. This will teach you to control your pace.
Learning how fast you are running is something that takes time and work. You need to do repeat intervals at a set pace. You will learn how it feels to run at that pace. I think you have figured out that it is easy to run fast in the beginning, but it doesn't take long to realize you went out too fast. If you are actually running long distance then it is best to run even, but not knowing your pace you should start a little slower and build up after the rush at the start of the race.
What type/brand of running shoes should I buy?
Practice everyday so you become more aware of your body and how to control it. Consistency is the key. What I would suggest is ask a sports trainer. There is one at this site who ran track in college. You might want to ask them.Good luck.

.Track season begins in 2 months from now?
I'm a long distance runnner too and I find the best way too pace your self is too make it so you have enough energy not to stop and to sprint ant the end and then explode. What are good running books or magazines?
you have to learn how to pace for it. Its pretty hard, but once you practice at it, you can be really good! Just try not to run too fast the first part of the workout. Its good to have around the same split times every lap you do, except maybe faster toward the end. GOOD LUCK!More Questions & Answers...
