Is there an exersise that can help me?
Alright, so you've joined the track team; that's the first step. 100m in 17 sec is, well, it's not great. I don't think you'll be seeing much improvement in a week. However, by the end of the track season, you should be able to get your 100 time below 15, and your 200 time under about 33. You should ask your coach what to do, and take his advice, but what I would do is start of with longer runs. Depending on your endurance, anywhere from 2-5 miles a day, at a fairly slow pace. Increasing cardiovascular fitness is the most important thing when you're out of shape. Then, as the season progresses and your cardio gets better, you should focus on more speed work. I highly suggest joining the Cross Country team next year as well. Also, try out different events; you may not be a great 100m runner, but you might be fairly adept at long/high jump or perhaps long distance. good luck!Whats these levels like level 1?
ouch, you may drop 3 seconds on ur 100 time by the end of the season and 5-7 on the 200 if your lucky. Maybe try the field part.I wasn't good at the 100 or 200 either. I focused on the 800 and 1600 and was quite good. Then in college, I ended up running cross country and now I run marathons. If you don't naturally have the speed needed for those short races and you love running, try other distances and see how you fare... you never know how talented you might be. :)
Either way, the speed work you are doing now will help you in any race at any distance.
Why does my 200m dash not correlate at all to either my 400m or my 100m dash?
Just keep trying! You can get as fast as you push yourself! You should maybe try Cross-Country too. Its really fun and hey, you might be good at long distances! It also improves you for track, because it gives you endurance!
