don't eat anything b4 a race or u'll get a cramp. Also drinking powrade or gatorade before a race is not a good idea...too much sugar can really get ur energy down!

An energy gel (GU or Powerbar gel) is good 15 mins before and then every 4 miles- depends on how far you are running. I wouldn't actually EAT anything within an hour of a race b/c it will sit in your stomach (that's not enough time for the body to break food down into useable energy)... a gel breaks down into glucose in about 15-20 minutes. (It ain't tasty but it does the job!)
