The half marathon is an increasingly popular distance. Many marathons now include a half marathon as well. When they do, the half usually has more participants than the full. For example, the 2007 Vancourver Marathon had 3100 marathon finishers while the half had 5800 finishers.
Not many, but half marathons are becoming more popular.
I've heard that about 1 in 1000 people in the US have run a full marathon, so a half marathon would be higher. Maybe 1 in 500, or about 2 tenths of a percent.

Half Marathons are becoming increasingly popular in the united states. In fact, all distances are becoming more popular. Why am I having such difficulty running?
Well a decent amount of people are getting into running and they are moving up to the half marathon level. It could have potential to be the turning point in their running life. My dad ran a marathon about a year or so ago and when he finished he decided he was ready to move up to a marathon. And now a year later he has run 6 marathons and just ran the Boston marathon a few weeks ago, so this could be very unique because it could give them that push up to run a marathon.More Questions & Answers...
