What should i eat before my race?


on saturday i have a race in the morning at 8 what should i eat before my race? im either running a 800, mile or two mile! any ideas?

I usually just go with oatmeal or a granola bar at least 2 hours before the run, then drink water. at those distances you dont have to worry too much about carbo loading or burning up all your glycogen.

Just eat your regular breakfast. For those distances diet isn't gonna play a huge part (as long as you don't eat unhealthy foods). I enjoy cereal and milk. Just don't stuff yourself and avoid greasy foods.

The night before eat some spaghetti or something with carbs. On that morning I'd suggest eat some more carbs like toast, a granola bar, or something like that. If you eat something larger the morning before eat around 6, but if it's just a granola bar you could eat around 7. If you normally can't eat too soon before a race (get cramps, nauseous, etc.) than don't eat after 7. Stay away from milk products though the morning before, they cause cramps. Bananas or other fruit are good.

Just a Plain Hersey candy bar, about 20 - 30 minutes before
your race. If your a chocolate lover that really perks up your

If you're running at 8 that means you'll be warming up around 7:30. Even if you're not 'up' it's important to get up and fuel your body. You wouldn't drive your car without gas. Eat between 5-5:30 so that your body has enough time to digest the food and you aren't sick. I'd eat what you're used to as well. Trying something new is a bad idea. In college our coach would wake us up 3 hours before our meet and have us jog for 30 minutes to wake our bodies up- then we'd have breakfast super early and by the time the meet came a few hours later we were already awake, not stiff from sleeping and fueled from breakfast! It always worked wonders!

If you're running any of those races they usually are run later in the meet. Make sure you bring something like a granola bar (or something like but wholesome) with you so that if you do have longer than you expected you still have a little something to munch on. Coffee is a no no. It's too risky with the caffeine rush and then drop. Don't have high fatty foods either. Stick to something like cereal and a banana with OJ, cream or wheat or oatmeal.
