improvement for long jump

The thing that you have to concentrate on whether you do long jump is the strength in your take off foot. If you have a set of stairs at home, go up them using only one foot to go up each stair. I'll use myself as an example, in high school when I was jumping I used my left foot as my jumping foot. So after practices I would go home and go up the set of stairs only using my left foot to go from stair to stair. This simulates taking off from the board for your jump and helps you to strengthen your take off leg (but also do it for the other foot so you aren't walking around with one leg slightly more developed than the other).
The best way to practice for the long jump at home is to work on the sprint from your starting mark to the board and have someone watch your form. Let's say your starting mark is 65 feet away from the board, mark off the distance on your driveway or side of the road (hopefully you don't live on a busy street) and just work on accelerating to the board. Have some one watch to see if you stutter step (taking shorter steps in order to hit the board) or if you slow down in order to hit the board.
Hope this helps!

High school long distance running work out schedule?
Try to jump as high as possible before caring how far can you reach. Take extra practice to improve the height first.
Good luck!
