Tips on running in a track meet?


im thinking im going to run the 800m and mile. my meet is tomorrow and its my first one ever. pretty much any advice would be great. thanks!

pasta/complex carbs the night before and in the morning.

fruits like pineapples are good at lunch, pineapples are recommended because they're canned in their own juice.

Stay out of the sun when you're waiting around. The sun strips your energy. Also try not to get destroyed by rain and wind before your event. Do lots of warm up, like 15 minutes.

good races to run I run the 800 and all of last year I never thought i needed to stretch. this year Im stretching more and my times are dropping faster. also carbs are usually good and a good nights sleep. good luck.

What is a good time for a 800 meter run for a person in middle school?

Just enjoy yourself! You will be nervous. I always found that if I knew the time of the event, I preferred to check my equipment in the morning or the night before and conduct my warm up away from the track where you can try and get your mind off what you are about to do. I found that I tended to waste a lot of nervous energy if I hung around the track!! Use tonight to come up with a reasonable expectation of how fast you can run. Remember not to eat too close to the event and stay properly hydrated.
The 800m is a "bull at a gate" start so try to place yourself about 2-3 back and on the inside of the track by the 400m mark. That way you'll get the drag. Start looking for you openings at about 500m and stick with them. If someone takes off at 600m then try to follow. When you come off the final bend, pull up on the outside of them and race for the finish tape. It can be a pretty rough race so dont take any barging personally!! Good luck and I hope this helps!!

drink plenty of water and stay out of the sun!! don't eat anything greasy or drink milk! i also run the 800. run with your hands relaxed and make sure to swing your arms forward not across your body(that is my current problem) stand straight up or lean in if there is wind. go a little bit faster on the 1st 200m so that you don't get boxed in then set your pace. give it everything you've got on the last 100 and make sure not to use all your energy in the beginning!

How do I improve my running time on the mile?

Drink plenty of fluids, starting right now- you don't get dehydrated all in one day, it's a gradual process. Nothing with a ton of caffeine.
Do a couple of sprints during the event before your race. (about 50m each)
If you're the type to get nervous, take deep breaths & relax. It'll be ok!
Be sure you are warm enough! If it's below 60 degrees, you need pants & long sleeves on before your race- don't take them off til the last minute!
Warm up(2 laps if possible) and do a ton of stretching.

Eating pasta and all would be good. But the most important thing to do is to stay relaxed, don't freak out about it, the more you think about it, the harder it will be. Just try to have fun before it. You'll do great!
