Tips for running the 800?

I usually run the mile at my meets, but tommorow im running the 800. I havent raced in the 800 since middle school (im in high school now). Any tips as to how to pace myself during the first lap, etc. Im aiming for about a 2:30.

If you are a miler, I'd keep the pace up for the first lap and a half to avoid getting beat by the sprinter types in the last 200m kick. Try to run off those sprinters with that early pace from your mile.

Mono and running. please answer!?

Pending on your mile time a 2:30 shouldn't be too bad. I ran distance in my freshman and sophomore high school years and got around that time and 2:20. Also pending is how tall you are. I used my long legs to stride/sprint the opening 200 meters, then i would slow it down to a stride for the next 300 meters (not jogging, but a bit faster than) for the next 100 go back to a stride/sprint and for the last 200 meters a dead out sprint. Granted if you are not dead tired after this race is over you did not do it right :P, at least thats how my coach put it.

When in doubt, just go fast out of the gate, stick close enough to the leader to where if you get to the last 250-200 meters you can catch up with your home stretch sprint.

Sports Bra's & Other Help?

if you have been running the mile.the 800 shouldnt be much of a problem.Just run with the pack for the first 500m...then start to kick it at the 300m mark on the second lap...dont wait till the 200m...because thats what everyone expects.

The mile and 800 are two very different races, you'll realize. The mile is more of a tactical race, that involves planning and strategy and knowing when to go, when to pass, and when to draft off people. The 800 involves more of a brute force approach.

I do not recommend you go all out on the first lap and just hang on for dear life on the last but draft off the leaders for the first lap then treat the last lap as a 400. You'll feel a lot better to have a strong last lap rather than a weak one. While I am not saying you need to do negative or equal splits, if you want a 2:30 a 73 followed by a 77 should do.

Hey, my friend keeps hating on x country, how can i get him to get off my case?

Well, there really isn't much to change for yourself at the moment, since you're running it so soon, but you shouldn't worry, since you;ve been running the mile. The mile has been proven to be among the best training techniques for the 800m. Your coach knows what he/she is doing. Keep in mind that the 800 is somewhat different of a race. It's about the mentaility. The 800 will feel like a very long sprint to most milers. I recommend keeping a decent pace through the first lap especially and going wild on the second. Good Luck.
