When you use the word 'gifted' in a professional sport such as snooker it's always best to refer to how the players rate each other. Most players in the modern era will refer to Ronnie as the most gifted player, although Ding Junhui (currently ranked worlds 61) could give him a run for his money when he matures.
However I don't think we should forget the likes of the original Joe Davis, holding the title for a consecutive 15 years back in the 1920's - 1940's (save for the gap in play during WW2). Fred Davis and John Pulman are also worth a mention.
