In snooker, can you pot a red ball in any pocket from the D after a foul?
my friend went in off after a break and the white was put in the D. A red ball was left over the pocket at the head of the table at the D end, and he said I am not allowed to pot backwards from the D after a foul, i must aim dowd the table towards the black

He was wrong, in snooker you can play in any direction you wish. Imagine if his rule were true, it would mean that if you were unable to pot a red by playing down the table then the only other option is to play safe, which usually means leaving the cue ball in baulk (and at such an early stage of a frame, there isn't really anywhere else that you could put it and it be safe), but of course that would have left your mate with an easy pot. In short, he was cheating, thinking that if you believed him then chances were he'd get an easy pot on his next shot.Yes you can !!

He is telling you the truth. When the white is placed in the D after a foul as you describe it must be played forwards over the baulk line. You could of course use a rebound from the cushion to pot the red over one of the baulk pockets.In 9ine ball, why must 3 balls hit the rail in the break?

Thats rubbish what your friend has told you, after a foul in snooker where the white hast to be placed in the D you can play any red on the table you wish the only time you have to play down to the black is on a break, if you place the whit in the D and cannot see a red in full view you can also nominate a colour to take this can be the yellow so you sont have to play down the table.Anyone know of any pool tournaments around the Saint Louis area?
